Democratic Convention activists, get your training here

What better place to get your activist training then the People’s Republic of Boulder. For a week or so, you can extend the 25 square miles surrounded by reality down to Denver.

Take it like a Man

Dr. Helen writes about discrimination against men in the workplace.

I saw it happen at an engineering company I worked for where the “inexperienced/idiotic” but probably par for the course HR lady said somewhat gleefully, something to the effect: “He doesn’t stand a chance being a white, middle aged man”.

I particularly like this excerpt…

The “take it like a man” line is said to psychologically weaken you and shut you up so don’t listen — it is a manipulative tactic meant to silence you. Remember that one definition of bravery is “the quality of mind enabling one to face danger or hardship resolutely.” If you stand up to these workplace bullies — and that’s what they are — in a constructive way, then you will know deep inside that you really are a brave person who has inner strength, despite what your co-workers say.

Hat-tip, appropriately enough to Instapundit.

Keep drinking the GW kool-aid

I guess the record New Zealand snow base at Mt. Ruapehu is one of the (many) reasons why global warming is now conveniently referrred to as climate change.

Tomorrow, 2 trash carts gone

Well tomorrow, Western Disposal will pick up the recycling and composting trash carts. Last week, they exchanged my 96 gallon trash cart for a 32 gallon trash cart. This county mandated recycling/composting simply doesn’t fit in with how I create various types of trash.

The net result is some beanhead at the County thinks I create 64 gallons less of trash weekly and Western Disposal, even with the $10 fee is making less money on me.

I don’t disagree with charging for trash by volume, that in itself should be an incentive to recycle and/or compost. However, I vehemently disagree with the County micromanaging my life.

Vote out the present county commissar’s this November.

The wacko enviro’s and alternative energy

Will nothing make these people happy?

Unfortunately, you can’t just transmit the power from the source to the end user. It requires transmission lines. There’s always a problem and a cadre of wacko-environmentalists ready to bring progress to a screeching halt.

A view on Algebra homework

Hardly a scientific study and perhaps a slight conflict of interest, but the Mentor Products website has some common sense….

Mentor recognizes the significant efforts that are occurring in mathematics education in the United States. Mentor believes that additional emphasis should be placed on fundamental principles and that drill and practice will always remain a primary method for the learning of basic knowledge. There is no substitute for student practice in solving algebra problems. Algebra homework is necessary for students to master algebra.

Mentor believes that students and parents should play a role in the educational process. Students must do their homework. Parents should insure that their students complete their assignments.

I’m responsible for bold and italics. Obviously the Algebra I teacher does not agree with the above statement.

Fever pitch…

That is in regards to speculating on VP choices. I admit to having an opinion, but personally, I have better things to do with my time.

Grrrr, more on Algebra homework

If homework isn’t useful, then why did my daughter have 14 pages of relatively tedious and repetitive math homework to do over the summer?

Homework must be good for something, but apparently not when you have class everyday. Inquiring minds would like to know.

No homework

Well my 7th grader just returned from the 2nd day of Algebra I with “great news”. The teacher does not assign homework. Scientific studies you know.

Color me very very disappointed. I’m particularly disappointed that the Principal of this school, who I have very great respect for, would allow this teaching philosophy to exist.

On the bright side, there will be problems assigned if the students “feel” they need extra work, but there will be no grades recorded.

I would say “thank you St. Vrain Valley School District” but I’m sure the same philosophy exits in the Boulder Valley School District as well.

Damned if you do, damned if you don’t

That would be the residents of Eldora and Allenspark. They can elect not to work with the county and have new construction house size limited to 1500 square feet, or work with the county.

I suggest that residents of Eldora and Allenspark vote for replacement County Commissioners. There is an opportunity to do just that only a few months away. Furthermore, it would be nice if the rest of Boulder County would join them.

Of course, not only will the rest of Boulder County not join them, but I’d wager the residents of Allenspark and Eldora will vote in the same commissioners who did this to them.

As the commentor said, talk about stealing your property rights. Unfortunately that’s business as usual for the County Commissars.

Most distressing is the citizens of Boulder County simply don’t give a damn. A total of 2 comments on this article. To think these liberal elistists are so concerned about the present administration stealing citizens rights, but don’t give a damn when it happens in their own back yard. Pathetic.

Record cold in Denver

Record low “high” temperature was recorded at Denver International Airport on August 16th. The high yesterday was 58 degrees. The previous low high of 63 was recorded, get this, in 1890!

New York Times and corporate taxes

Power Line reports on the NYT’s vast ignorance regarding the basics involved in the simplest of corporate income tax calculations.

In theory, a company pays 35% of its net income to the feds, not its gross receipts. That reporters and editors at the New York Times should be ignorant of this basic fact is shocking. How in the world can these people purport to instruct the rest of us on economic matters, when they lack the most fundamental understanding of how our tax system works?

Are taxes on revenue or income? This sounds like a mistake our local paper, which worships the New York Times, would make. Beware Camera editors, don’t blindly follow them over a cliff.

How much oil in the OCS?

As Betsy explains, not only are the Democrats not interested in finding out how much oil exists in (on?) the Outer Continental Shelf, they are actively preventing it.

It’s really rather amazing. Obama and the Democrats want to refuse to use modern technology to find out exactly how much oil there might be on the Outer Continental Shelf so that they can use outdated estimates in arguing against expanded drilling. They prefer to keep us all in ignorance rather than making a decision based on the most up-to-date information. They want to shut down all debate on the question and further shut down even the research.

I wish it were either amazing or surprising. If you’re a Democrat NOT in Al Gore’s pocket, please consider exploring alternate Democrats or libertarian candidates.

Stoopid(reporters) think “we” are stoopider

The “we” would be the general public, you and I. Of course, they’re not only stoopid, stir in the appropriate amount of arrogance as well. A potent and dangerous combination if you’re a MSM believer.

The breck guy always rubbed me the wrong way. Of course, a lot of people are looking for the messiah, he simply turned out to be the forerunner.
