You go Neil

Most of the time, misery is a choice

I have multiple sclerosis; a pretty tough neurological disease for which there’s no cure. And I got it only a few years after beating back a pretty serious cancer for which it once looked there might not be a cure.

Again, I’m not trying to win points, just make this point: Illness doesn’t define who I am or how I feel. It’s shaken my life, but it hasn’t sapped one iota of my enthusiasm for life.

Sure, there are many days I wish my voice could be stronger, my legs sturdier, and my eyesight clearer, but I can’t count on these things. Only that living is worth dealing with all of these things.

Jack is right: I don’t know jack about misery, but that’s only because I choose not to be miserable.

(emphasis added)

On a slightly personal note, I wish my mother could understand this.

Stoopid bicyclists….

Last night I was leaving Boulder on Hwy 36 headed north towards Lyons. I passed at least 5 bikes heading into town all with no headlights and only one with a rear flashing LED. This was all after 7:51pm.

Truly being the 3rd friendlist bicycling city leads to a sense of entitlement and arrogance that will lead to accidental death and injury.

Cyclists, if you’re riding on the darker side of dusk, is it really too much to ask that you have appropriate lighting and reflective tape? The answer’s obvious.

1% mortgage loans

That’s what Deb Grojean wants the government to do as stated in her letter to the editor in today’s Boulder Daily Camera. It’s an idiotic idea but only one of many looking for new government policies and spending as noted at Instapundit.

Funny how every problem seems to wind up as an argument designed to justify new government policies and spending. Probably including in-the-tank journalism: More subsidies for journalistic diversity! And a tax on FoxNews!

Lincoln and Obama

I think it’s safe to say these two Presidents are from different ends of the political spectrum.

Dead Heat: Obama and Ron Paul

A dead heat with Ron Paul is definitely not a complement to “the One” as Powerline explains. This is even more troubling…

Here is the latest indignity: in a head to head matchup with Ron Paul among likely voters, it’s a dead heat, 42-41. Remarkably, Paul sweeps the independent vote by an astonishing 47-28 percent.

A very special President

What if Bush had done this?

World leaders arriving in Washington for President Obama’s Nuclear Security Summit must have felt for a moment that they had instead been transported to Soviet-era Moscow.

The local Dem’s would be going apoplectic. Of course, since it’s Obama it’s barely worth a mention. The local paper will continue to act like actions like this are nothing out of the ordinary. It boggles the mind, at least if you live outside the 25 square miles surrounded by reality.

More here.

In the middle of it all was Obama — occupant of an office once informally known as “leader of the free world” — putting on a clinic for some of the world’s greatest dictators in how to circumvent a free press

Bias of veteran journalists…

The sin of certainty.

The journalists at the press conference didn’t have a bias as the term is normally used; that is, I didn’t get the sense that they were inherently for or against the company or its product. They just appeared to think they knew the subject well enough, or had a set enough idea in their heads as to what this kind of story was about, that they pursued only the lines of questioning necessary to fill in the blanks of that presumed story line. As a result, they left the press conference with less knowledge and understanding than they otherwise might have had. And while nobody could have said the resulting stories were entirely wrong, they definitely suffered from that lapse. Especially, as might be expected, when it came to the predictions they made about the product’s evolution or future.

Food for thought.

Where is my free healthcare?

Good grief.

“They’re saying, ‘Where do we get the free Obama care, and how do I sign up for that?’ ” said Carrie McLean, a licensed agent for eHealthInsurance.com. The California-based company sells coverage from 185 health insurance carriers in 50 states.

Free is good. Freedom is better. It’s the personal responsibility part that concerns me.

Boulderites, be afraid….

well you know how it goes. And here’s the reason…

Disgruntled Democrats join the Tea Party

They are not typical Tea Party activists: A woman who voted for President Obama and believes he’s a “phenomenal speaker.” Another who said she was a “knee-jerk, bleeding heart liberal.”

These two women are not alone.

Some Americans who say they have been sympathetic to Democratic causes in the past — some even voted for Democratic candidates — are angry with President Obama and his party. They say they are now supporting the Tea Party — a movement that champions less government, lower taxes and the defeat of Democrats even though it’s not formally aligned with the Republican Party.

Time to get outside of the 24 square miles surrounded by reality.

I don’t belive the tea party stereotyping in the comments of the local paper or their editorial coverage is going to change but while a large majority of Boulderites live in their own alternate universe, reality is going to pass them by. Suits me fine.

Healthcare reform starting ahead of schedule

hmmm

The sign reads: “If you voted for Obama … seek urologic care elsewhere. Changes to your healthcare begin right now, not in four years.”

Reading further….

In his waiting room, Cassell also has provided his patients with photocopies of a health-care timeline produced by Republican leaders that outlines “major provisions” in the health-care package. The doctor put a sign above the stack of copies that reads: “This is what the morons in Washington have done to your health care. Take one, read it and vote out anyone who voted for it.” (emphasis added – ed)

I like this guy!

Of course, the local Democratic legislator has nothing good to say about him…

The outspoken Grayson described Cassell’s sign as “ridiculous.”

“I’m disgusted,” he said. “Maybe he thinks the Hippocratic Oath says, ‘Do no good.’ If this is the face of the right wing in America, it’s the face of cruelty. … Why don’t they change the name of the Republican Party to the Sore Loser Party?”

Judging from the results, Obama needs some Boulderites to vote. Keep in mind this is a CBS poll, not a Fox news poll.

Obama worse than Bush…

… on warrantless wiretapping. From the San Francisco Chronicle no less.

Just as significant as the ruling, however, may be what the case demonstrates about the Obama Justice Department’s approach to surveillance of suspected terrorists. Eisenberg told SF Weekly that government lawyers working for Obama had been “more strident” than those working for Bush, refusing to let him see important federal documents related to the case even after he was approved for a top-secret security clearance.

“Even though I have the security clearance, I don’t have the ‘need to know,’ so I can’t see anything,” Eisenberg said. “This is Obama. Obama! Mr. Transparency! Mr. Change! It’s exactly what Bush would have done.” (emphasis added – ed)
