World wants Obama as President

What a surprise the world wants Obama as President of the United States. Especially if this is the same world that doesn’t think Osama Bin Laden is responsible for 9/11.

September 11th

In the whose to blame for September 11th category…

Seven years after the Sept. 11 attacks, there is no consensus outside the United States that Islamist militants from al Qaeda were responsible, according to an international poll published Wednesday.

The survey of 16,063 people in 17 nations found majorities in only nine countries believe al Qaeda was behind the attacks on New York and Washington that killed about 3,000 people in 2001.

U.S. officials squarely blame al Qaeda, whose leader Osama bin Laden has boasted of organizing the suicide attacks by his followers using hijacked commercial airliners.

On average, 46 percent of those surveyed said al Qaeda was responsible, 15 percent said the U.S. government, 7 percent said Israel and 7 percent said some other perpetrator. One in four people said they did not know who was behind the attacks.

One can only hope Newsmeat is like the Onion.

Erika Stutzman, see below

In a recent Daily Camera editorial critizing McCain’s selection of Sarah Palin and the apparent poor job of vetting the Republican’s did, Erika Stutzman states the following…

And given their claims that Palin was properly vetted, why are there so many unanswered questions? About pork-barrel contributions from the same stream linked to a different senator’s indictment? About troopers and librarians, threatened with firings over personal vendettas? A link to a party that wanted Alaska to secede from the union?

A few questions for Erika who is a member of the Daily Camera editorial board:

Erika, why let the facts get in the way of a good editorial?

Why not do some investigation instead of doing the easy job of slamming someone you dislike so much?

Have you thanked the New York Times for leading the way for you?

It also must be frustrating for Erika that her editorials primarily are read by like minded readers so she really isn’t changing many votes.

Clueless at the House Ways and Means committee

Honestly, it would be funny if it weren’t so damn pathetic. Charlie Rangel is without a doubt a loser.

And once again, we get insight into the Rangel household and his capacity to represent his constituents. We further learn that Rangel had no clue that he was paying no interest on this mortgage. That’s after we learned yesterday that he didn’t have a clue that he was supposed to claim the income from that property. And that’s after we learned that Rangel didn’t know that rent stabilization guidelines prohibited him from using such apartments as offices. He’s the Chairman of the Ways and Means Committee in the House, and yet he doesn’t know tax laws or care to follow them.

(bold is mine)
Charlie, upgrade your life and become a used car salesman.

P.S. Can’t wait to see what the House ethics committee does. LOL! Perhaps they should just disband.

Just call Charlie Rangel Mr. Ethics

Charlie Rangel is Chairman of the House Ways and Means committee which writes the tax rules? Betsy comments on Charlie’s tax debacle and more.

Your kidding me, right? I particularly like the comment from Paul…

Please, before you raise our taxes, how about paying yours first Charlie.

Despite Boulder’s best efforts

the Republican’s are once again Colorado’s largest voting block.

The Colorado secretary of state says in a report posted online this week that registered Republicans total more than 1,024,500. Unaffiliated voters are second at just under 1,022,400.

Democrats are third at just under 946,200.

Obviously, it’s pretty much a bragging rights thing. It’s more like a 3 way tie.

Us magazine losing subscribers

MSNBC reports that US magazine is losing thousands of subscribers.

Us Weekly, which unlike People and OK!, chose a rather caustic cover line (“Babies, Lies and Scandal”) is said to have lost thousands of subscribers in just the first 24 hours following the printing of the issue.

“I’m hearing it’s 5,000, maybe more,” says one well-placed source in the industry. Another source claimed that as many as 10,000 readers have already cancelled their subscriptions. A spokesperson for Wenner Media, which publishes Us, says “it is completely false that we are losing 10,000 subscribers.” As for the 5,000 estimate, the spokesperson only said “that is false, too,” but wouldn’t comment further.

Well it didn’t take long, whatever the true number is.

Looks like “trickle down” is at work as well..

Upset might be an understatement: One Us advertiser has admitted that they’ve received calls from angry former subscribers threatening to boycott their products.

Let’s not ignore that MSNBC also got a taste of the same medicine in the rating wars covering the Republican convention. That said, I suspect they alienated those advertisers and viewers long ago.

Men voting for strong women

Dr. Helen examines results from the latest Rasmussen poll that shows Sara Palin receives positive reviews from 65% of men and 52% of women. She concludes…

I can’t say that I’m surprised. I heard over and over during the Hillary and Obama race from people that “men just won’t vote for a strong woman.” Well, that’s a myth. They just won’t vote for the wrong woman.

If Palin is such a horrible choice…

they why do the liberals keep trying to drag her and her family through the mud? As Ann Althouse notes (via Instapundit for me)..

The Palin candidacy has virtually nothing in common with the Eagleton scenario, and the people who are saying it does are displaying their desperation. Obviously — I’m not the first to say this — if you want McCain to lose and you think she’s so terrible, you should be happy to see Palin as the VP nominee. It will help defeat McCain.

Oprah and Sarah Palin

According to Drudge, Oprah is balking at having Sarah Palin on her show. The only surprise here is her staff is apparently evenly divided…

Oprah’s staff is sharply divided on the merits of booking Sarah Palin, sources tell the DRUDGE REPORT.

“Half of her staff really wants Sarah Palin on,” an insider explains. “Oprah’s website is getting tons of requests to put her on, but Oprah and a couple of her top people are adamantly against it because of Obama.”

Phone call from typical Boulder liberal

This illustrates the thought process of Boulder liberals. Last night, during Sarah Palin’s speech we received a phone call from work acquaintances. They are politically knowledgeable and have strong political (liberal) beliefs, but aren’t active in everyday Boulder politics. In other words, your typical Boulder liberal.

Would we have considered calling them when Biden or Obama were speaking during the Democratic convention? Absolutely not.

Yet they called us while Sarah Palin was speaking. It wasn’t out of malice or forethought. It’s simply the typical Boulder liberal mindset that creates an environment where it doesn’t even occur to them that there are Republicans or at the very least free thinkers that aren’t at least in a different area code.

Boulderites respond to McCain/Palin

and it’s so predictable. Below is a screen capture of the Daily Camera letters to the editor blog.

The first one is purely about Obama and the rest take on McCain/Palin in one form or another. Talk about groupthink. Here are some highlights…

From Michael Ray Harris…

Then I witnessed Barack Obama’s acceptance speech as the Democratic candidate for presidency of the United States of America. Uplifting? You bet. Inspiring? Absolutely. American? Definitely! In what was a historical moment for so many reasons, Mr. Obama vowed, above all else, to return the government to all of us. His words have revived a national civic lesson, asking both our people and our government to remember their roles in the American democracy. He has raised the specter of a re-born America with principles that will once again ensure a government unlike any other in the world.

Mr. Obama, thank you for restoring my true identity and belief in America. Now, please, keep your promise.

Michael Harris practiced law in California and Colorado for 15 years and is now an Assistant Professor of Law at the University of Denver.

Michael Ray Harris

At least Michael believes his credential are important.

From Ari Armstrong…

“I have to win here if I’m going to be the next president of the United States,” John McCain told a Colorado crowd in July. The fact that the Democrats came to Colorado for their convention also proves the presidential importance of the Interior West, a region known for its independent streak and partisan upheavals.

However, McCain seems not to have learned the political lessons of the Interior West, despite the fact that he’s from Arizona. By selecting Sarah Palin as his running mate to attract the evangelical vote, McCain risks alienating the independent voters and non- sectarian Republicans he needs to win.

From Melanie Buscher who feels for poor Bristol and can’t imagine how her Mom would treat her so poorly…

Where are all the voices of the conservative, “Family Values”
coalition today…in the wake of the wild, circus-like, free-for-all taking place at poor Bristol Palin’s expense? While those voices most certainly should not condemn that poor girl for making a mistake that many, many have made before—after all, how could she have known any better when her own mother chose to share abstinence advice over educating her properly about her own body—those “Family Values” voices should instead condemn the actions of Governor Sarah Palin, who in a time she is most needed by her family, chooses to put her own ambitions and those of her political party ahead of the needs and well- being of her daughter.

Does the Palins’ idea of Bristol growing up “faster than we had planned” include outing their daughter’s difficult situation to the media of the free world while she tries desperately to come to grips with the fact that just a few moments of unbridled, youthful passion have altered her foreseeable life forever? Isn’t that enough of a consequence in itself? And, if as John McCain’s campaign has asserted, he knew of Bristol’s predicament beforehand, is he the kind of man we want as our next President? Do we really want a President who would throw a young, unmarried pregnant woman to the wolves in order to achieve his lifetime dream? Senator McCain, even more than the Palins, understands all too well the scrutiny and unfair attacks suffered by those who seek political office—yet he is willing to let Bristol pay this price.

From Reed Bailey…

I am saddened by the media feeding frenzy around Sarah Palin’s daughter Bristol’s unplanned pregnancy. But I am stunned by the jubilation the evangelical Republican base is expressing over Bristol’s unplanned pregnancy at seventeen, renewing their interest in voting Republican. What kind of people of faith would vote for candidates who propose we risk our children’s lives by keeping them ignorant of potential dangers to them? The Republican base now seems to encourage and even glorify teen pregnancies by refusing to educate their children about safe sex and birth control methods. Why are parents who deny vital safe sex education now heroes?

Certainly Ms. Palin has the right to teach abstinence to her children, but wise and responsible parents of faith know teenagers like Bristol are tempted to experiment with sex, so they teach their children how to protect themselves from unwanted pregnancies and deadly sexually transmitted diseases (STD). It is totally irresponsible for Ms Palin to subject her children to the risk of early pregnancies and deadly STD by advocating abstinence only sex education. Suggesting God wants her to keep her children ignorant about safe sex, because then they will go out and do it, is blind stupidity in my view. I suppose Ms Palin does not teach her teenagers the safety rules of the road, or the importance of seat belts, for fear they may sneak a joy ride in the family car? Palin should know better if she is really qualified to be our next VP.

From Dorothy Ogle…

The Republican Party told us that there were weapons of mass destruction in Iraq, that the people of Iraq would welcome us as liberators and that the resources of Iraq would pay for the war. Now they tell us that Sarah Palin is just as qualified to be President as Barak Obama. Why should we believe them?

Ever since Barak Obama gave the keynote speech four years ago, he has been in the national public eye. Since then the American people have been able to read his books, hear him debate national issues and hear his response to criticism from every corner. We have come to appreciate his knowledge about the U.S. Constitution, foreign affairs and security. Other than trusting the McCain campaign’s rushed vetting, on what basis can we judge Sarah Palin’s knowledge about U.S. domestic or foreign affairs, or even her knowledge about the U.S. Constitution or how the national government works?

None of these letters are particularly surprising, being from self-righteous Boulder liberals. The world is simple and the Boulderites will be glad to lead you to the promised land!

My suggestion is to keep it up, you look more desperate each and every day!

I’d say that Rachel Lucas is smitten with Sarah

I just watched the Palin RNC convention speech, and I am enchanted. She’s serious without being scary. Sarcastic without being nasty. Not to mention, her accent charmed my pants right off.
