The bigger trap

In the post below the Diplomad claims McCain has laid a trap for Obama. Unfortunately for McCain, the House Republicans may have laid a trap for him.

Imagine if he had to deal with the Iranians

The Diplomad believes the McCain campaign has laid a trap for Obama. As an analogy, he describes World War II battles in the Pacific where weaker American forces thwarted and defeated stronger Japanese forces. Oh, and in case you wondering, in the Diplomad’s analogy, Obama is the Japanese.

It’s what happens when a plan “doesn’t come together”.

Boulder County kommissars under attack at debate

The Boulder County commissioners were under attack at the Land Use Coalition debate this afternoon.

The first debate featuring all nine candidates for the three open Boulder County commissioner seats was full of sharp words, strong accusations and a general hostility toward the three incumbent Democrats.

No great surprise as this was a great venue for them to be ganged up on. That said, the article sites the results of a recent survey of how the public views the work of the present commissioners…

Despite the almost palpable frustration with the incumbents in the room, a recent survey of registered voters in the county reveals that most residents aren’t as upset with the commissioners. The poll, finished this summer, shows that 74 percent of people are “somewhat” or “very” satisfied with county government. In unincorporated Boulder County, where the land-use restrictions put into place by the commissioners are effective, 67 percent were satisfied.

I’m not surprised in the least by these results. The liberal majority in Boulder County is very much for their version of government activism. I’ve documented in these pages that it will be a cold day in hell when I vote for the incumbant power troika. That said, I expect to see them in power until they are term limited out. Once they are kicked out of office by term limits, Boulder County citizens will probably recycle some previous county commissioners back through the positions again. A case of meet the new boss, same as the old boss.

You can see the questions and the answers from each candidate at the Land Use Coalition web site.

Obama vs. NRA

Factcheck.org has supported Obama’s version of the truth regarding the NRA ads depicting Obama in an enemy of the 2nd amendment. Volokh Conspiracy takes a critial look at Obama’s records and Factcheck.orgs fact checking. Make sure and click on the “show” link to see the bulk of the article.

Thin skinned Obama

Using lawyers to silence his critics. I fear this guy with the power of the Presidency. If he gets in office he can send the IRS goons after his enemies.

McCain vs. NY Times

Powerline calls McCain’s attack on the NY Times “Going Nuclear“.

Yes indeed, a partisan arm of the Obama campaign. Boulder Republicans can certainly relate to this issue with our local paper.

MSM Amnesia

How come no one in the MSM remembers Barney Frank setting the table for the current financial crisis? Fortunately, John Hinderaker at Powerline refreshes our memory as he reviews a 2003 NY Times article. As you will see, Barney Frank is well, Barney Frank…

“These two entities — Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac — are not facing any kind of financial crisis,” said Representative Barney Frank of Massachusetts, the ranking Democrat on the Financial Services Committee. ”The more people exaggerate these problems, the more pressure there is on these companies, the less we will see in terms of affordable housing.”

Yea, I know, it’s all Bush’s fault, and whatever isn’t Bush’s fault is sure to be Sarah Palins. A convenient onset of Amnesia from the MSM, with the New York Times leading the way.

New York Times – laughing stock

The McCain campaign unloads on the New York Times for their reporting that McCain-Palin 2008 campaign manager Rick Davis was paid by Freddie Mac until last month. Aside from calling the Times “an Obama advocacy organization” they continued…

In fact, the allegation is demonstrably false. As has been previously reported, Mr. Davis separated from his consulting firm, Davis Manafort, in 2006. As has been previously reported, Mr. Davis has seen no income from Davis Manafort since 2006. Zero. Mr. Davis has received no salary or compensation since 2006. Mr. Davis has received no profit or partner distributions from that firm on any basis — weekly, bi-weekly, monthly, bi-monthly, quarterly, semi-annual or annual — since 2006. Again, zero. Neither has Mr. Davis received any equity in the firm based on profits derived since his financial separation from Davis Manafort in 2006.

Further, and missing from the Times’ reporting, Mr. Davis has never — never — been a lobbyist for either Fannie Mae or Freddie Mac. Mr. Davis has not served as a registered lobbyist since 2005.

The McCain campaign delivers one body blow after another, charging the Times with “willful disregard for the truth” among other things. Read the whole letter and decide if the New York Times is worthy of its (past) reputation.

The Boulder Daily Camera editorial board, the local mouthpiece for the New York Times might want to be careful what they rebroadcast from the Times editorial pages. On the other hand, they might not.

Malaysian blogger gets 2 years for insulting Islam

Raja Petra Kamaruddin, a Malaysian blogger finds himself heading to a detention center. Obviously, Malaysia is not on the top of my list of places to visit.

Malaysia’s most prominent blogger has been ordered to spend two years in detention under internal security laws after being accused of insulting Islam, his wife said Tuesday.

How did we get into this mess

“All the Republican’s voted for it, all the Democrats, including the current chairman Chris Dodd, voted against it.”

The video contains this warning from Alan Greenspan which fell on apparently deaf Democratic ears.

I’m not a big fan of Greenspan, but he certainly saw this problem quite clearly.

Hat-tip to Powerline and Hot Air.

Thanks Daily Camera, a little slow but it’s good to see this information out to the Boulder populace.

The Diplomad endorses Palin for President

The Diplomad is back from travelling the far reaches of the globe. He wastes no time praising Sarah Palin. He concludes…

Well, friends, it turns out that of the four principal candidates — McCain, Obama, Biden, and Palin — the last one, the lady from Alaska is the most qualified to be President. She has the executive experience and governing savvy the others do not have; she has the happy combative spirit the others do not have; she seems absolutely fearless, and unapologetic in her beliefs. She will win or she will lose but she will do it standing up.

I could see her at the Alamo.

Senator Biden, watch out at the debate!

Governor Sarah Palin is the most qualified by a long shot to be President. Let’s at least make her Vice President.

Welcome back Diplomad, may we find you in a posting mood.

The Buffett has landed

Warren Buffett has invested $5 billion in cash into the new and improved Goldman Sachs, now a bank holding company instead of an investment bank. Here’s the deal as reported by CNBC…

Berkshire will buy $5 billion of perpetual preferred stock that carries a 10 percent dividend. It also will receive warrants to buy $5 billion of common stock at $115 per share, exercisable within five years.

Sweet!

This is definitely a plus for market psychology. This is the kind of market that is taylor made for Buffett putting his cash to work.

Before you believe the rumor mongers…

take Charlie Martins advice

What it does teach us, though, is to watch out for people reporting these rumors as fact. The old newspaper adage was “if your mother tells you she loves you, get a second source.” So here are some new ones — useful any time, but especially useful on these political rumors:

Any time you hear about a budget “cut,” check the previous year’s budget.

Consistently, every rumor about Palin cutting a budget has turned out to be an increase that was smaller than someone asked for.

If it seems too good to be true, it probably is.

This applies to a lot of the rumors on both sides, frankly. “Obama is a secret Muslim.” “Palin was a member of a secessionist party.” “Obama wasn’t born in the USA.” “McCain wasn’t born in the USA.” This applies especially to stories that match your preconceptions.

“Extraordinary claims require extraordinary proof.”

The bigger the surprise would be, the less likely it’s true.

Applying these to most all the Palin and Obama rumors would have saved a lot of pixels over the last two years.

Ho hum…. no big deal

When the Democrats do it, no big deal. I can imagine the squealing if the Republicans’ tried such childish/thuggish tactics…

Organize callers to swamp radio shows

Threaten an independent religious organization with an IRS investigation

Of course, with the Dem’s “intellectual superiority”, anyone with more than 1/2 a brain knows their right, so it’s ok for them to act in this fashion. Also no reason to worry about the MSM exposing their childish/thuggish ways. In parenting, acting like this would yield spoiled brat children.

Disgusting skit gets pulled off You Tube. NBC claims copyright to make You Tube pull it down from their site. The thought process to do produce the skit and the editorial immaturity to actually allow it to run boggles my mind.

Hullinghorst loses up to $601,000…

and the Boulder Daily Camera apparently believes it’s not important enough to report. The Longmont Times Call reported Boulder County’s investment loss on Saturday Sept 20th. Now it’s Tuesday September 22nd and nothing from the Daily Camera.

Admittedly, it’s highly unlikely that full $601,000 will be lost, but why are the editors of the Daily Camera deeming this unworthy of reporting?
