Obamanomics

Denver Post Columnists David Harsanyi gives us a primer on Obamanomics

Now, I’m not suggesting Obama intends to transform this nation into 1950s-era Soviet tyranny or that he will possess the power to do so. I’m suggesting Obama is praising and mainstreaming an economic philosophy that has failed to produce a scintilla of fairness or prosperity anywhere on Earth. Ever.

If you believe that “fairness” — a childishly subjective idea that ought to be quarantined to playgrounds and Berkeley city council meetings — should be meted out by the autocrats inhabiting Washington, D.C., your faith will be duly rewarded.

You know, once upon a time, the stated purpose of taxation was to fund public needs like schools and roads, assist those who could not help themselves, defend our security and freedom, and, yes, occasionally offer a bailout to sleazy fat cats.

Obama is the first major presidential candidate in memory to assert that taxation’s principal purpose should be redistribution.

What I want to know is why he’s working for the Denver Post?

Earliest snow in Switzerland

Snowiest October since records began…

According to MeteoNews, the Swiss lowlands received the most snow for any October since records began. Zurich received 20cm, beating a record of 14cm set in 1939.

and in Florida

It was a record for Oct. 29 and the second lowest temperature ever recorded in October since 1850. Ocala’s official weather site is at the city water treatment plant on Southeast 24th Street.

Until Wednesday, Oct. 29’s record temperature was 37 in 1943 and a close second was 38 degrees in 1957.

I’m sure local candidate Jared Polis misspoke when he said “global warming” when he really meant “climate change” when he stated…

“It would be an utter stretch of the imagination to believe that global warming is not from man-made sources, and it’s a total disregard for science,” Polis said Tuesday.

Global warming and early snowfall

Once again “real weather” shows up a global warming debate, this time in the UK…

Snow fell as the House of Commons debated Global Warming yesterday – the first October fall in the metropolis since 1922. The Mother of Parliaments was discussing the Mother of All Bills for the last time, in a marathon six hour session.

Of course, as the politicians act, supporting public opinion starts to recede…

Recently the American media has begun to notice the odd incongruity of saturation media coverage here which insists that global warming is both man-made and urgent, and a British public which increasingly doubts either to be true. 60 per cent of the British population now doubt the influence of humans on climate change, and more people than not think Global Warming won’t be as bad “as people say”.

Both figures are higher than a year ago – and the poll was taken before the non-summer of 2008, and the (latest) credit crisis.

Yet anyone looking for elected representatives to articulate these concerns will have been disappointed. Instead, representatives had a higher purpose – demonstrating their virtue. And for the first 90 minutes of the marathon debate, the new nobility outdid each other with calls for tougher pledges, or stricter monitoring. Gestures are easy, so no wonder MPs like making them so much.

The politians have kept drinking the kool-aid as the general public starts to realize the truth.

Global warming junkies, your cause is starting to lose momentum. Time to trot Al Gore out and attempt to create a new crisis. After the current financial crisis it might be harder than usual to grab the general public’s attention.

Going John Galt

Oh yeah!

Psychologist Dr. Helen Smith, the wife if Instapundit’s Glenn Reynolds talks about “Going John Galt” over at Pajama’s Media TV. You can read her column on the same subject here.

Sounds like a great idea to me.

Washington Post takes on Obama fundraising

The Washington post calls out the Obama campaign for their fundraising operation that invites manipulation, making it so very easy to violate campaign finance reform laws.

Faced with a huge influx of donations over the Internet, the campaign has also chosen not to use basic security measures to prevent potentially illegal or anonymous contributions from flowing into its accounts, aides acknowledged. Instead, the campaign is scrutinizing its books for improper donations after the money has been deposited.

Why would a campaign do this? The phrase “win at all costs” comes to mind.

In recent weeks, questionable contributions have created headaches for Obama’s accounting team as it has tried to explain why campaign finance filings have included itemized donations from individuals using fake names, such as Es Esh or Doodad Pro. Those revelations prompted conservative bloggers to further test Obama’s finance vetting by giving money using the kind of prepaid cards that can be bought at a drugstore and cannot be traced to a donor.

The problem with such cards, campaign finance lawyers said, is that they make it impossible to tell whether foreign nationals, donors who have exceeded the limits, government contractors or others who are barred from giving to a federal campaign are making contributions.

Why would a campaign do this? The phrase “win at all costs” comes to mind.

Lawyers for the Obama operation said yesterday that their “extensive back-end review” has carefully scrubbed contributions to prevent illegal money from entering the operation’s war chest. “I’m pretty sure if I took my error rate and matched it against any other campaign or comparable nonprofit, you’d find we’re doing very well,” said Robert Bauer, a lawyer for the campaign. “I have not seen the McCain compliance staff ascending to heaven on a cloud.”

Why do an extensive, laborious back end review when it’s so easy to implement front end measures to deter casual but overzealous Obama supporters from over contributing? Once again the phrase “win at all costs” comes to mind.

In reference to a contributor named Mary T. Biskup who apparently donated $174,800 to the Obama campaign (limit is $2,300) by credit card the Obama campaigns response was…

Biskup, who had scores of Obama contributions attributed to her, said in an interview that she never donated to the candidate. “That’s an error,” she said. Moreover, she added, her credit card was never billed for the donations, meaning someone appropriated her name and made the contributions with another card.

When asked whether the campaign takes steps to verify whether a donor’s name matches the name on the credit card used to make a payment, Obama’s campaign replied in an e-mail: “Name-matching is not a standard check conducted or made available in the credit card processing industry. We believe Visa and MasterCard do not even have the ability to do this.

“Instead, the campaign does a rigorous comprehensive analysis of online contributions on the back end of the transaction to determine whether a contribution is legitimate.”

Bold is mine. LAUGHING OUT LOUD! I don’t think I believe them, do you?

In the interest in fairness in reporting, the McCain campaign isn’t lilly white either…

Dan Pfeiffer, Obama’s communication’s director, said that “no organization can fully insulate itself from these problems. The McCain campaign has accepted contributions from fraudulent contributors like ‘A for You,’ ‘Adorable Manabat,’ ‘The Gun Shop,’ and ‘Jesus II’ and hundreds of anonymous donors.”

That said, I really like this response from the McCain campaign regarding accepting anonymous temporary credit cards and gift cards…

But R. Rebecca Donatelli, who handles online contributions for the McCain operation and the RNC, said security measures have been standard in the GOP nominee’s fundraising efforts throughout the campaign. She said she was “flabbergasted” to learn that the Obama campaign accepts prepaid cards.

“Yes, a gift card would go through the same process as a regular credit card and be subject to our same back-end review,” the Obama campaign said in its response to questions about the use of such cards.

If the situation were reversed the press would be screaming so loud you’d have to cover your ears. The local liberal rag, the Daily Camera would be firing both barrels and foaming at the mouth with pure primal anger and outrage. Yet, they are so strangely quiet when it’s their “favorite son” taking the shortcuts.

Looney tune Jared Polis

Looking at the map of the 2nd Congressional district, I suspect it can support someone like Jared Polis.

I would suggest that 2nd CD voters that are part of the reality surrounding Boulder at least take another look around before casting your vote for Jared. You can read some of Jared’s lefty views in this Boulder DC article.

“It would be an utter stretch of the imagination to believe that global warming is not from man-made sources, and it’s a total disregard for science,” Polis said Tuesday.

and…

Polis is opposed to offshore drilling and to further drilling on public lands.

Inviting Fraud

When it comes to campaign contributions Obama’s setup is ripe for fraud.

Why? Must be the “win at any cost” mentality. Surely someone of his intellectual capacity can understand that his contribution setup is more than suspect.

Pathetic.

Obama and Campaign finance

Win at any cost…

Over the weekend, National Journal posted Neil Munro’s “FEC rules leave loopholes for online donation data.” Munro compared the two campagns’ acceptance of online donations and reports that Obama legal chief Bob Bauer essentially admitted that the Obama campaign does not compare credit card numbers to detect multiple sub-$200 donations under different names.

Liberals, you have no moral authority regarding campaign finance reform.

Classic Clay Evans

As only Clay can say it. If he could open his myopic eyes he would see there’s plenty to criticize on his side of the aisle as well. Why the Camera wastes column space on this angry tripe boggles my mind. Of course, it really shouldn’t.

Randy Luallin on Telling the Truth

Libertarian candidate Randy Luallin wrote a letter taking County Commissioners Ben Pearlman and Will Toor to task on the subject of truth telling. Unfortunately, the Daily Camera, who is fully in the hip pocket of the current power troika, never let Randy’s letter out of the letter to the editor blog. Here’s the first paragraph of his letter…

In a recent public forum Will Toor the Democratic incumbent County Commissioner publicly told me that I need to learn to tell the truth. He was referring to comments I had made regarding the County’s litigation with the Rocky Mountain Christian Church I will refer to as RMCC. My comments were that the County had brought lawsuit against a community- based religious organization and, in the approximate two year process for them to receive their building permit in which they have spent almost a million dollars, that not one of their representatives on the Board of Commissioners including Will Toor have set foot on the property or spoken with the leaders of the congregation to resolve this issue. Will Toor corrected me in saying it was RMCC that had brought suit against the County, and Ben Pearlman another Democratic Incumbent spoke up and said he was personally involved with talks with RMCC that “broke down”.

Follow the link and read the rest of the story.

Since I’m sure that the Daily Camera is in full agreement with the Commissioners efforts to prevent RMCC from expanding, why would they give Randy’s letter any more visibility than they already had to? It’s too bad, as the County Commissioners should get, and deserve, some heat from the local press. Unfortunately, all they get from the Daily Camera are ringing endorsements.

I’m not a member of RMCC and don’t care for the mega-church concept.

Boulder County Bar Association and Judge Klein

Judge Klein’s friends on the executive committee at the Boulder County Bar Association are trying one more time to ride to his rescue. In a guest opinion piece published in Sunday’s Daily Camera they conclude, incorrectly in my opinion…

This is precisely how our system should work. Legislators, not judges, should change laws. Unhappiness with the application of Colorado’s adverse possession law in this case has nothing to do with Judge Klein’s performance. The Colorado Judicial Performance Commission — an entity comprised of mostly non-lawyers — has thoroughly reviewed this case and hundreds of other cases handled by Judge Klein and unanimously recommended that he be retained. See the commission’s review at http://is.gd/4IJ5.

The commenter’s do a better job of taking on Denean Hill, Karl Kumli and Rich Irvin then I could ever do, so follow the link, read the article and then the comments. I particularly like this comment from “strike3″…

Those who try to defend Klein on the grounds that he “followed the law” on this case are obviously totally ignorant of the absurd physical evidence McLean and Stevens presented.

It is crystal clear from the actual physical evidence (which I inspected) that Mclean and Stevens had no case. Or, at best, a very weak and extremely suspicious set of “facts”.

What McLean/Stevens really had was a malicious scheme, driven by greed and vindictiveness, to stop the Kirlin’s from building their dream home on the lot next door.

No jury would have decided this case in favor McLean/Stevens after viewing the evidence on-site. There is NO WAY an IMPARTIAL judge would have either.

But Judge “It’s an honor to have you in my courtroom Judge McLean” Klein is another story.

Why these guys can’t just “lay low” and hope Judge Klein squeaks through suggests that they seriously fear the vote will go against him. I suspect they aren’t all that concerned about Judge Klein but the citizens taking the law into their own hands. While potentially dangerous, I’d have to say the attorney’s of the world only have themselves to blame. Boy’s, if there’s a problem in the judicial system, I suggest you look in the mirror.

The wife and I voted last Wednesday and I’m proud to state that we both voted NOT to retain Judge Klein.
