More on Green Bay protests

Jammie Wearing Fool comments on the lack of critical questions for Obama during his stop…

Regarding that campaign stop, after Barry O talked about how seizing control of the healthcare system in this country was the single most important thing that needed to be addressed or else western civilization would cease to exist, using the same rhetoric and words that he used previously when talking about financial institutions, the automakers, and the housing market, just before he seized control of them also, he opened it up for questions from the crowd. He assured us that the people were not pre screened or pre selected, so I want to know why was it that all those who opposed his plan were on the outside?

There was the local teachers union member who did not have a question about healthcare at all, but rather used his opportunity to blast the No Child Left Behind policy and the unfairness of testing.

There was the guy who asked for a note for his daughter for school.

There was a woman who was a big fan of going to a single payer system.

There was NOT a single dissenting opinion or question, either from the people in attendance or the media.

Everyone must agree with him, except for the few misguided souls carrying signs, no other possible explanation.

Which brings me back to the lyrics from I.G.Y.

Standing tough under stars and stripes
We can tell
This dream’s in sight
You’ve got to admit it
At this point in time that it’s clear
The future looks bright
On that train all graphite and glitter
Undersea by rail
Ninety minutes from New York to Paris
Well by seventy-six we’ll be A.O.K.

What a beautiful world this will be
What a glorious time to be free

Yea, right.

What happens when you reward healthy behavior?

At Safeway we believe that well-designed health-care reform, utilizing market-based solutions, can ultimately reduce our nation’s health-care bill by 40%. The key to achieving these savings is health-care plans that reward healthy behavior. As a self-insured employer, Safeway designed just such a plan in 2005 and has made continuous improvements each year. The results have been remarkable. During this four-year period, we have kept our per capita health-care costs flat (that includes both the employee and the employer portion), while most American companies’ costs have increased 38% over the same four years.

Wowza!

A billion here, a billion there…

House Health-Care Proposal Adds $600 Billion in Taxes

Does our healthcare system need an overhaul? No question. Give me private interprise everyday. Unfortunately, or fortunately if your an Obama liberal/progressive, a sense of entitlement has been fostered among many of todays workers. Many healthy people with means to pay believe insurance is a “rip off” and freely and willingly go uninsured. It only takes a second to slip on the ice and break an ankle, hip or wrist (of the appendage of your choice). It will be too late to get insurance then. No need to talk about serious illnesses, of course you’ll never get one of those.

Yes, many people who have a right to be upset about how insurance works, but there are just as many people, if not more that are perturbed with little justification.

The bond vigilantes are back!

As the chart below shows, the 10 year bond yield has been creeping up since the end of December.

Wonder why? Could it be due to the economy turning around? Most likely it’s because our lenders don’t care to lend us any more money at low rates. Perhaps this will rein in the stimulus and government run health care. Works for me. The bond vigilantes are back. Hip-hip-hooray. You’ve been sorely missed.

This link should give an updated chart.

I Can’t Believe I’m Sitting Next to a Republican

Hey, I need this book!

I Can’t Believe I’m Sitting Next to a Republican: A Survival Guide for Conservatives Marooned Among the Angry, Smug, and Terminally Self-Righteous

(bold is mine)

6/12/2009 10:50. Oh, and I should add that I’ve never been registered as a Republican. I am registered as non-affiliated so I can declare a party at the polling place. This allows me to vote in the Democratic primaries where most of the local races are decided anyway. Then I quickly switch back to non-affiliated.

Canadian Healthcare

Two different views….

The Denver Post…

Debunking Canadian Healthcare Myths

And the Wall Street Journal…

Canada’s ObamaCare Precedent

And both authors are from Canada! I find the flippant dismissal of the Canadian health care myths in the Post article more than mildly troubling.

Climate scientists in unanimous agreement

Good grief, and how well did the computer models predict the propagation of the swine (whoops H1N1) flu, or the global warming/cooling/stagnation of the last 10 years.

At least with these upgrades, climate scientist can do their GIGO that much faster!

Obama: It’s OK to borrow to pay for health care

Not that he invented the concept, but best I can tell it’s OK to borrow to pay for damn almost anything. He surely has quickly become the King of borrowing money, but of course the previous administration made him do it.

It’s great how after borrowing trillions he comes up with “Pay-go”, how laughable.

Indefinite Delivery/Indefinite Quantity

You can’t make this stuff up. This is the government that’s saving jobs and wants to provide health care?

KALISPELL – Across the nation, local firms can expect to lose billions of economic stimulus dollars to large multinational corporations, thanks to a government contracting scheme that puts paperwork speed ahead of community recovery.

In Montana, that means qualified building firms are out of the loop, while many millions in federal construction funding will go to a California company that recently earned a stern rebuke for its failures in Iraq – a war-profits scandal that cost taxpayers hundreds of millions of dollars.

Here’s a little about IDIQ…

That’s because the government is using a controversial contracting method that speeds bidding but also tilts the playing field in favor of mega-companies. It’s called IDIQ contracting, which is shorthand for “indefinite delivery/indefinite quantity,” and it’s essentially an all-you-can-eat money buffet for big corporations.

An IDIQ is a broad and open-ended agreement, in which the government essentially creates a sort of long-term, all-purpose contract under which specific tasks can later be defined. The scheme moves projects quickly, which is a priority for economic stimulus jobs, but critics argue it’s anticompetitive, because only a handful of large firms can afford to engage on such undefined and unrestricted terms.

Belly up to the trough.

Brings new meaning to “anything’s better than what we have”!

Kennedy health care bill

Sounds expensive, sure hope the government can print money. Yea, I know they already do. A word of warning, “it will work until it doesn’t” just like the mortgage crisis.

Great example of Boulder whining

Miriam Paisner complains about Boulder gas prices in her letter to the editor.

All I can say is look around! Gas is far from the only thing more expensive in Boulder. It’s a special place and it costs more to live there, from housing, to gas and almost anything else. Miriam, I’m looking forward to you leading the effort to bring Walmart to Boulder.

More tea parties

Yup, they’re still happening.

“We don’t talk about social issues,” Meckler said, noting that people at the Tea Party came from all walks of life and beliefs.

Most Boulderite’s and their fellow progressive don’t seem to understand this.

CNN ratings tanking

It’s a bitter pill for CNN co-founder Reese Schonfeld to swallow…

Now, seven months after Barack Obama’s victory, CNN’s ratings have gone down the drain. From May of last year to May of this year, CNN lost 22% of its total primetime audience. MSNBC was down 2%, while FoxNews was up 24%. In the key advertising demographic (25-54), Fox was up 31%, CNN was down 37% and MSNBC was down 26%. In hard numbers, Fox had 109,000 more viewers than last year while CNN lost 113,000. CNN averaged fewer than 200,000 25-54 viewers in primetime. Even MSNBC averaged more viewers than that.

The article has some constructive criticism, but there’s no danger CNN will take it into consideration. I’m certain of that, the culture is too strong. They will go out of business before they change. Sorta like some Newspapers!
