Nanny State – beyond stoopid

Food served at public schools to be controlled by the Feds.

Yes, yes, yes… I agree that better food needs to be served at schools especially when it comes to sugary soft drinks, etc. But do we need the Fed’s involved. I say Hell No.

The U.S. Agriculture Department would be given the power to regulate all food sold in schools — including vending machine snacks — when Congress renews child nutrition programs, the chairman of the Senate Agriculture Committee said on Tuesday.

It’s like everyone is helpless or something. Unbelievable.

Red Light Cameras

i-Phone users outsmart the system.

Area drivers looking to outwit police speed traps and traffic cameras are using an iPhone application and other global positioning system devices that pinpoint the location of the cameras.

That has irked D.C. police chief Cathy Lanier, who promised her officers would pick up their game to counteract the devices, which can also help drivers dodge sobriety checkpoints.

“I think that’s the whole point of this program,” she told The Examiner. “It’s designed to circumvent law enforcement — law enforcement that is designed specifically to save lives.”

The new technology streams to i-Phones and global positioning system devices, sounding off an alarm as drivers approach speed or red-light cameras.

Lanier said the technology is a “cowardly tactic” and “people who overly rely on those and break the law anyway are going to get caught” in one way or another.

The greater D.C. area has 290 red-light and speed cameras — comprising nearly 10 percent of all traffic cameras in the U.S., according to estimates by a camera-tracking database called the POI Factory.

Two hundred and ninety red light cameras! WOW!

This is great, perhaps the Boulder City Council should consider whether it’s worth the cost to add additional red light cameras! It’s a lot cheaper to extend the yellow light by 1 second, but there’s only one problem with that proposal, IT DOESN’T RAISE ANY MONEY!

Be sure and read the comments. Here’s one that sums it up…

I am heartened to read not one comment in support of the parasite class. It makes me believe there is still a fighting spirit left in this country

Hell, this is a great reason to get an i-phone, unfortunately I’m on Verizon. 😉

h/t to Instapundit.

Environmentalist agenda

Why is this so easy to believe?

Big Brother Has Turned Green

The environmental movement has cultivated a warm and fuzzy public image, but behind the smiley-face rhetoric of “sustainability” and “conservation” lies a dark agenda. The Greens aim to regulate your behavior, downsize your lifestyle, and invade the most intimate aspects of your personal life.

From the inside cover of Green Hell. Guess I should get the book!

California citizenry to political elite

We just don’t believe you anymore.

The rest of the nation needs to start getting the message too. The vocal minority that hates large corporation and wants government to take care of us better start listening too. The 2010 elections could be very interesting.

Sounds like Bush

Boulder is this the “hope and change” you voted for?

The Obama administration said Tuesday it could continue to imprison non-U.S. citizens indefinitely even if they have been acquitted of terrorism charges by a U.S. military commission.

Jeh Johnson, the Defense Department’s chief lawyer, told the Senate Armed Services Committee that releasing a detainee who has been tried and found not guilty was a policy decision that officials would make based on their estimate of whether the prisoner posed a future threat.

2010

I’m for voting all the stoopidity out of office. Unfortunately, the definition of stoopid is far from universal. In the Boulder area my definition of stoopid is in the very distinct minority.

I’m sick and tired of all this bullcrap about “experience”. Look where experience has gotten us. I’m not against having smart people in office, but less lawyers and more representatives from a wider group of soceity can be nothing but goodness.

Expounding on this very theme is Bill Whittle over at PJTV.

A video well worth watching, much more than the Republican video above.

If at first you don’t succeed….

try try again.

I sure hope they do something different this time. Perhaps spend the money? Or Ron Insana’s idea of a tax holiday?

Apparently Harry Reid doesn’t agree.

Rule of law

I’m sure glad I didn’t vote for this guy who wants to bypass the Senate.

Apparently, Barack Obama finds treaty ratification a little too complicated, and so he figures he can just commit the US to nuclear disarmament and bypass Congressional oversight:

I hear “It’s great to be King”!

Cuba enters, Honduras kicked out

What exactly does OAS stand for?

Some in Honduras, however, criticize Mr. Insulza and the OAS for suspending Honduras from the group while at the same time pushing to allow Cuba back in despite that country’s Communist dictatorship.

Ya don’t say!? To bad we don’t here that criticism from the Obama administration.

Rein your guy in Colin…

Apparently Colin is getting slightly alarmed at Obama’s grand schemes.

Colin Powell, one of President Obama’s most prominent Republican supporters, expressed concern Friday that the president’s ambitious blitz of costly initiatives may be enlarging the size of government and the federal debt too much.

“I’m concerned at the number of programs that are being presented, the bills associated with these programs and the additional government that will be needed to execute them,” Mr. Powell said in an excerpt of an interview with CNN’s John King, released by the network Friday morning.

Paging Warren Buffett. Yoo-hoo, it’s your turn!

Yea, no sh*t.

Especially since no one even reads the damn bills. Like a few days to read a piece of legislation is a big deal??? Guess not if our elected representatives can’t read. Sure beginning to wonder, especially the reps that are busy pushing everything through in such a hurry.
