Can’t or won’t?

Erika Stutzmen, editorial page editor at the Daily Camera retweeted this posting…

Ha: RT Andy Borowitz: Does it strike you as weird that 43 million Americans can’t get health care, but the Lockerbie terrorist can?

43 million American’s can’t get health insurance? Can’t means cannot correct? I don’t think so. I don’t even believe Erika believes this, yet she either does or was careless.

Exhibit 1

Exhibit 2

I really like the conclusion from exhibit 1…

The number of chronically uninsured people who would prefer to have insurance but can’t afford it is likely 10-12 million people, or one quarter of the number often repeated by the media. Reporters who cite the 48 million number without providing a full context do their readers a great disservice.

Bold is mine.

Be careful what you wish for

Britains National Health System, is this what you want?

But the most shocking thing was not the lying. Nor even the incompetence. It was our total lack of surprise at the turn of events, since after 15 years suffering from the failings of the National Health Service we are prepared for almost any ineptitude.

Pooring more money at the problem?

There is no doubt that nearly tripling the health budget in a decade has led to visible advances, especially in the infrastructure. Some of the new hospitals are vast improvements on the crumbling Victorian buildings they replaced, and seemingly small things such as spruced-up waiting rooms and toys for children make a big difference. Unfortunately, it is equally clear that billions have been wasted, poured into a centralised monopoly that focuses on the manipulation of a target culture rather than delivery and innovation. It was little surprise to learn that more managers than doctors were hired last year. And all too often these managers seem to reinforce rather than challenge the patronising attitudes that often predominate, while failing to tackle glaring waste.

A systematic failure…

Clearly there is systemic failure. And it is a question of management, not money. Some of the worst problems encountered have been at the hallowed Great Ormond Street Hospital for Sick Children, which uses the strength of its brand to suck up money and increase its reach. Many in the medical world are infuriated by its endless growth, but scared to take on the behemoth. But behind the soft-focus fund-raising and cuddly image lurks inefficiency and, all too often, needless insensitivity.

Here’s where Britains should donate money for the most efficient use in the health care system…

Indeed, should you feel moved to give money to help sick children, I would advise you to give to the children’s hospice movement instead. As I write, my daughter is at Shooting Star in Hampton, Middlesex, a particularly deserving recipient. It is interesting to note that this sector, which derives a paltry five per cent of its income from statutory sources, does not seem bedevilled with the woes that afflicts so much of the public sector.

Of course the US Government can do better, just like the great job they’ve done with “Cash for Clunkers”. I suspect the NHC didn’t start out this way!?

More trouble for ACORN

Is ACORNS’s corruption surprising to anyone except the liberals and progressives from Boulder, Berkeley, San Francisco, Eugene and Seattle?

A former Las Vegas director for a political advocacy group accused of illegally paying canvassers to register voters during last year’s presidential campaign has pleaded guilty to a reduced charge and agreed to testify against the group and another employee.

Chief Deputy Nevada Attorney General Conrad Hafen said Wednesday that Christopher Edwards’ plea deal strengthens a felony case against the Association of Community Organizers for Reform Now and Amy Busefink, a former regional voter registration director for ACORN.

And the government wants these yahoo’s helping with the census?

I love it when a plan comes together….

Doctors, do you want the government to be responsible for your paycheck?

Perhaps you should talk with the auto dealers.

Don’t worry, be happy says the government.

More on Whole Foods boycott

Hey, who predicted the Boulder boycott of Whole foods (not that it took a genious or anything)!??

Now Whole Foods is apologizing for CEO John Mackay’s WSJ column regarding health reform.

Whole Foods, the largest natural foods grocer in Boulder County, is doing damage control and apologizing to its customers amid growing calls for boycotts against its CEO’s views on health care.

John Mackey, Whole Foods’ founder and chief executive officer, caused a stir after he wrote a guest opinion in the Wall Street Journal against a “massive new health-care entitlement” that will “move us much closer to a government takeover of our health-care system.”

John Mackey advocated personal responsibility, what’s wrong with that?

I do think his article gave short shrift (is that a word?) to the problem of the uninsured that have gotten trapped outside the system, to me that’s what health care reform should be about.

To many, their hate of the insurance companies profit motives is so great that they would rather go without health insurancce at great financial risk to themselves and their families simply to avoid paying premiums to the insurance companies. Pennywise and pound foolish it seems to me. That is where the non-profit medical co-op idea seems to make some sense, as it would take away the excuse from this group of people to not purchase health insurance.

Why Obama-Care is failing…

Jonah Goldberg hits the nail on the head as he describes why Obama-Care is failing. He describes the exact message I receive reading the Boulder paper and the comments on health care articles.

To listen to the White House and its supporters, in and out of the media, you would think that opposition to “Obama-care” is the hobgoblin of a few small minds on the right. Racists, fascists, Neanderthals, the whole “Star Wars” cantina of boogeymen and cranks stand opposed to much-needed reform.

Take the hint and look in the mirror.

Well, here’s the actual call for a boycott of the Boulder Whole Foods store! This is from the Daily Camera letters to the editor blog. Here’s my vote that it shows up in the paper in the next day or two. Sounds like a great letter for the Sunday edition.

Roger Simon: Obama’s Plot Against The Doctors

Posted in ObamaCare | Leave a comment

Respect for the medical industry

Why should we allow someone who has so little respect for the present medical process and can’t come close to getting his facts correct overhaul 1/6th of the economy? Why?

In order to sell health care reform, President Obama has been assiduously trying to make the point that his favored reforms would only cut costs by giving incentives for better medical care. But he keeps getting into trouble by the examples that he uses. He seems to think that doctors are performing surgery willy nilly simply because they earn more for surgery than for preventative care. First he accused doctors of yanking out tonsils for simple sore throats. Then he said that doctors are amputating feet instead of providing good preventative care for diabetics. The American College of Surgeons is not pleased and issued this statement….

Apparently Barrack Obama’s disgust with the present state of the medical system is so great that he doesn’t need to get his facts straight on procedures and cost. Read Betsy’s blog post and decide for yourself how little critical thinking is involved when our President speaks about health-care. It’s truly disgusting.

Time to reprioritize?

What is important to our elected representatives? In Michigan global warming ranks #1 to one Senator while it’s not in the top 10 of worries of her constituents.

Michigan just experienced its coldest July on record; global temperatures haven’t risen in more than a decade; Great Lakes water levels have resumed their 30-year cyclical rise (contrary to a decade of media scare stories that they were drying up due to global warming), and polls show that climate change doesn’t even make a list of Michigan voters’ top-ten concerns.Yet in an interview with the Detroit News Monday, Senator Debbie Stabenow (D., Mich.) – recently appointed to the Senate Energy Committee – made clear that fighting the climate crisis is her top priority.

Perhaps Senator Stabenow should move to Boulder where she would no doubt be welcomed with open arms. Guess she would have to lose her job first. Crazier things have happened!
