Pay now, benefits later

Betsy explains how the Senate plan gets good evaluation from the CBO.

The pain starts now, but the benefits come later. And that is how they get a good rating for the next decade. And then what happens when we go into the second decade and we have a full 10 years of benefits to pay for? Guess.

Regarding the label, I guess it’s actually “smart democrats” and “stoopid constituents”.

Firing offense

I agree with Obama, leaking is a firing offense, assuming the person fired isn’t a fall guy for a failed plan of ‘orchestrated leaking’.

THE PRESIDENT: “I think I am angrier than Bob Gates about it, partly because we have these deliberations in the Situation Room for a reason – because we are making decisions that are life-and-death, that affect how our troops will be able to operate in a theater of war. For people to be releasing information during the course of deliberation — where we haven’t made final decisions yet — I think is not appropriate.”

CHIP REID: “Firing offense??”

THE PRESIDENT: “Absolutely”

Do I think Obama was/is dithering? Absolutely.

Am I worried about his decision making ability? You bet.

All that said, unauthorized leaks should be a fire-able(sp) offense.

Wow! From near total blindness to sight…

Walking along a dimly lit, simulated street route, the children were able to negotiate barriers they bumped into before the surgery. Another child, who since birth, could only see light and shadows, stared into his father’s face and said he could see the color of his eyes. Later they played soccer together.

Amazing. Read about the gene therapy here.

Obamacare will make the problem we already have worse

From the Dean of Harvard Medical School, Jeffrey S. Flier

Worse, currently proposed federal legislation would undermine any potential for real innovation in insurance and the provision of care. It would do so by overregulating the health-care system in the service of special interests such as insurance companies, hospitals, professional organizations and pharmaceutical companies, rather than the patients who should be our primary concern.

In effect, while the legislation would enhance access to insurance, the trade-off would be an accelerated crisis of health-care costs and perpetuation of the current dysfunctional system—now with many more participants. This will make an eventual solution even more difficult. Ultimately, our capacity to innovate and develop new therapies would suffer most of all.

Betsy comments as well.

If Sarah Palin said it, it would be proof of impenetrable ignorance. But since Al Gore said it . . . it’s proof of impenetrable ignorance!

Witty, and so very true. Perhaps the AP fact checkers are looking for a new target? Didn’t think so.

The legacy media needs to find a mirror and look into it. Too blind to see I guess.

All about aging and lost love, this magnificent song has never sounded better, or more poignant. Here it is again, as the Twin Cities’ own Pete Lee likes to say, “once more once.”

This is a Gordon Lightfoot song.

China and Obamacare

Guess what? It turns out the Chinese are kind of curious about how President Barack Obama’s healthcare reform plans would impact America’s huge fiscal deficit. Government officials are using his Asian trip as an opportunity to ask the White House questions. Detailed questions.

Boilerplate assurances that America won’t default on its debt or inflate the shortfall away are apparently not cutting it. Nor should they, when one owns nearly $2 trillion in assets denominated in the currency of a country about to double its national debt over the next decade.

I get this strange feeling that the Chinese don’t believe Obamacare is revenue neutral!

You know how sometimes a friend tells you how much he/she doesn’t really care about….

…someone else. Really doesn’t! And repeats it a sufficient number of times that you become convinced of precisely the opposite?

It’s all Wall Street’s fault

Or is it? Charlie Gasparineo comments…

It’s a little too convenient for the government to come swooping in now and blame the greedy bastards on Wall Street for the financial collapse, when in fact the government was a player as well.

Gold Hit Another All Time High! What It Means For You

Nothing goes straight up or straight down as they say. You can expect a dollar rally as investor Jim Rogers predicts. You can also expect some profit taking and corrections in the gold market. But don’t expect this stock market rally to last. Interest rates will start climbing when we try to sell all of this debt we are creating for bailouts and stimulus. Bailouts and stimulus are definitely dollar negative and that seems to be the overarching trend.
