Saudi Arabia upset about climategate

A lack of trust in the science….

Imagine that. Hopefully someday soon the local paper will inform their readers about Climategate.

Weather.com think’s the high today is 23 deg F??

Their website says it’s 10 degrees at 1:18pm. Why does the 10 day forecast say the high today is 23 degrees? Did they factor in non-existent global warming or something?

Methinks they are very confused.

Tea Party or GOP?

Very interesting

Running under the Tea Party brand may be better in congressional races than being a Republican.

Maybe someone should tell Colorado GOP candidate Scott McInnis who failed in an attempt to hijack the Tea Party endorsement.

Northern Colorado’s two largest Tea Party groups have laid into presumptive Republican gubernatorial nominee Scott McInnis over what they see as his false claims of Tea Party support.

What really got the Tea Party folks riled up was McInnis appearance on Neil Cavuto’s show on Fox News Wednesday. As McInnis was introduced, an on-screen graphic read, “”Tea Party Backed Candidate Leading in CO Governor’s Race.”

As anyone who’s spent more than a couple of minutes watching Colorado politics knows, the idea that McInnis has the backing of Tea Party activists is ludicrous. Cavuto comes across as pretty ignorant about Colorado politics, I thought.

And to Boulderite liberals and progressives, the above is additional evidence that the Tea Party movement is not being manipulated by the GOP. Of course, to even begin to acknowledge that, the first qualification is to admit that global warming is not proven science.

OK, let’s see a Tea Party candidate for Colorado Governor. A few candidates for state government probably wouldn’t hurt either. Just sayin…

Discontent at the American Physical Society

Bob Austin, Professor of Physics, Princeton
Hal Lewis, emeritus Professor of Physics, University of California, Santa Barbara
Will Happer, Professor of Physics, Princeton
Larry Gould, Professor of Physics, Hartford
Roger Cohen, former Manager, Strategic Planning, ExxonMobil

The gentlemen above are concerned about global warming science and have petitioned the APS to withdraw their 2007 statement on global warming. I wonder why? Perhaps this will help the unenlightened, not that they would visit this blog…

By now everyone has heard of what has come to be known as ClimateGate, which was and is an international scientific fraud, the worst any of us have seen in our cumulative 223 years of APS membership. For those who have missed the news we recommend the excellent summary article by Richard Lindzen in the November 30 edition of the Wall Street journal, entitled “The Climate Science
isn’t Settled,” for a balanced account of the situation. It was written by a scientist of unquestioned authority and integrity. A copy can be found among the items at http://tinyurl.com/lg266u, and a visit to http://www.ClimateDepot.com can fill in the details of the scandal, while adding spice.

Amateur hour at East Anglia

as reported by the BBC!??

More here, including this nice tidbit…

When the global warming canard migrated from niche research into trillions of dollars of policy changes effecting every human being on the planet, the PhD level of quality control should have been ejected immediately. With the fate of humanity at risk, it is not too much to ask for professional quality code, analysis, and a true peer review process. Not that silly science journal review process by the good ol’ PhDs network, a real review like we do when we launch people into space or build a rail system or a new airplane.

Yet we continuously have been lectured about letting the experts do their work, and your criticism isn’t valid unless you’re a credentialed climatologist. One would hope the global warming religious believers that espoused these points of view would be embarrassed by what has happened. I highly doubt it, although they have certainly toned it down. No doubt, they are still pulling all the political strings they have in the past. That too will change, of course it may take awhile, as the big three networks continue to ignore this scandal. Do you think one day they will figure out why their viewership is declining and why they are referred to as the “legacy media” (do they even realize it’s a derogatory term???). I’ve come to the conclusion they’re too damn stoopid to add 2 + 2 and get 4 much less report the news.

Climate Science: An Inconvenient Truth

LOL (sorta)

It would actually be funny if it weren’t true. Let’s be clear, you never, ever throw away the original data.

Lecture on buying locally

The local paper lectures us on buying locally.

Retail therapy: If you`re going to buy, think about your choices

My response…

While I’m feeling guilty for buying at all, and when I do buy locally, I hope you don’t mind if I try to avoid Boulder.

A call for the climate change Open Source model

Thank you Judith Curry.

Curry: What those guys were doing doesn’t need a congressional investigation. They just need to put their data and codes and their metadata [online] so that everyone can see what they’ve done. Just open [the data] up and let the other scientists have at it. This will tell us how confident we can be in this data.

Elsewhere in the interview she comments on the IPCC…

NJ: What’s the role for the IPCC?

Curry: I staunchly support the IPCC, but when [chairman] Rajendra Pachauri comes out making all these really strong policy statements, such as the developed world has to cut back its energy use… and stop putting ice cubes in their water, and other crazy stuff… I don’t like that. These guys should pick people who don’t want to be advocates and will shut their mouths about advocating for policies. Otherwise, we don’t look credible.

I like this comment as well, that begins…

The great thing about open source is that you end up dealing less with criticism if your methodology is sound. If it’s not you’ve got bigger problems that your should be addressing.

Judith Curry is a climate scientist that I would listen to with an open mind.

More “Global warming science is proven” mantra

Trying to reach that “Mission Accomplished” moment.

It’s a circular argument based on, at the very best, questionable data in need of review.

Barack abandons the young

When will they ever learn?

What did the young get for their critical outpouring of support? Though most of his youthful backers would be hesitant to admit it, the President has betrayed them on three issues of great importance to their wallets and sympathies: health care reform, the federal budget and gay rights.
