Obamacare

Mayo clinic stops accepting Medicare at Arizona facility.

A sign of things to come? Don’t worry liberals, Congress can fix it. It’s just another law and another loss of liberty. Not to worry.

The panacea of gov’t health care

Gee, Jim, maybe they’re against it because it is 2000+ pages of legal gibberish and means much more gov’t control over our lives. And how many people voted for Bennet, anyway? Also, Lieberman still voted for it. How courageous. I love the way Jim says “taxpayer funds.” That’s my money, moron. And perhaps you should check your numbers. I doubt that 70% support this atrocity.

From the Boulder Daily Camera:

No more polical games
Despite the entrenched, often nasty, opposition of every Republican Senator to whatever health care reform President Obama supported, and the opposition of Joe Lieberman to the nonprofit public plan that over 70 percent of Americans supported, the Senate is moving closer to passing a bill before Christmas.
Colorado has two Senators, Mark Udall and Michael Bennet, who have not wavered in their support for the reforms we have needed for so long, and are so close to getting. Bennet spoke out yesterday against the same old Washington political games and maneuvers that have marked the current debate and legislative deals. Good for him.
Let’s hope the expected conference with the House strips them out, so that taxpayer funds go to reforming health care for all Americans, not for special interests who have spent over $650 million lobbying against reform this year.

Gag me with a greenhouse

This woman is trying to replace Barbara Boxer as the most stoopid person in the Senate. Oops, I forgot about Franken.

Bipartisan? Leadership? They laughed at him. Chapa$$ from Venuzuela got a bigger round of applause when he denounced capitalism, smelled the sulfer, and said that commies are great.

Ok, she isn’t from Boulder, but I think she drinks the same water.

Diana DiGette in the Denver SocialistPost:

I recently traveled to Copenhagen with the bipartisan congressional delegation attending the United Nations conference on climate change. In a historic meeting, the heads of state from 193 nations reached an agreement on reducing greenhouse gas emissions.

The leadership exhibited by President Obama and our negotiators energized the talks and moved global leaders forward on combating climate change. After years of U.S. inaction, the president’s leadership will be as important here at home as on the international stage if we are to meet our own obligations and contain the damage caused by global warming.Read more: http://www.denverpost.com/opinion/ci_14066987#ixzz0av88QmXS

Arrogance, Corruption and Stupidity

From Oklahoma Senator Tom Coburn…

This vote is indeed historic. This Congress will be remembered for its arrogance, corruption and stupidity. In the year of 2009, a Congress ignored the coming economic storm and impending bankruptcy of our entitlement programs and embarked on an ideological crusade to bring our nation as close to single-payer, government-run health care as possible. If this bill becomes law, future generations will rue this day and I will do everything in my power to work toward its repeal. This bill will ration care, cut Medicare, increase premiums, fund abortion and bury our children in debt.

This process was not compromise. This process was corruption. This bill passed because votes were bought and sold using the issue of abortion as a bargaining chip. The abortion provision alone makes this bill the most arrogant piece of legislation I have seen in Congress. Only the most condescending politician can believe it is appropriate to force Americans to pay for other people’s abortions and to coerce medical professional to take the lives of unborn children.

Champagne causes global warming

Color me irresponsible and proud of it.

Responsible Boulderites should stick to non-effervescent wines for the holidays. Even if the world`s great nations cannot agree on holding the line on global warming, we Boulderites can do it. Putting away the bubbly and satisfying oneself with a Pinot Gris is a sacrifice worth making for the sake of mankind.

Gun sales UP, Violent crime DOWN

Whouda thunk it?

Preliminary statistics released by the FBI for the first half of 2009 show that violent crime continues a downward trend that began in 2006. The figures show crime falling in all categories–robbery, aggravated assault, motor vehicle thefts, etc.–with murders down a remarkable 10 percent from the previous year.

The FBI statistics undermine a favorite argument of anti-gun groups and some mainstream media that “more guns equal more crime,” especially when you consider that the decrease in violent crime from late 2008 through the first half of 2009 occurred at the same time that firearm sales were surging.

The most popular firearms selling at that time were handguns and modern sporting rifles (AR-style rifles)–two types of firearms that anti-gunners never miss an opportunity to demonize.

Yes I understand the correlation doesn’t equal causation. How about global warming true believers? There isn’t even good correlation but it’s proven science.

Obamacare bribes “small stuff”

so says Iowa Senator Tom Harken…

Sen. Tom Harkin, D-Iowa, responded Tuesday to widespread criticism that Democrats only garnered the 60 votes needed to defeat Republican stalling tactics on the health reform bill by catering to self-interest, saying Democrats are focusing on the big picture; “trying to cross a demarcation line.”

Harkin dismissed deals dubbed vote-buying by GOP senators as “small stuff” that distracted Americans from the primary focus of the overhaul bill.

Senator Harkin, you don’t get to decide that, we the people do. Also, a large majority of we the people don’t care for your health care bill.

Learned helplessness….

Just say “No”.

Like the more resilient dogs, those of us who love freedom, believe in making our own health care choices and know to our very core that the government does not own us must never become helpless but must continue to find ways out of an unpleasant situation, and look forward with optimism, knowing that no condition is permanent.

Buy into Medicare

In a letter to the editor in the Sunday Boulder Daily Camera, one Dane Cobble demands the right to buy into Medicare. This little snippet captures Dane’s attitude which is, I suspect, typical of most Boulder liberals and progressives…

If our elected representatives are so foolish and/or corrupt to think that anyone wants to be forced to buy junk insurance from a criminal insurance industry (the real death panels), then they need to think again.

I demand the right for any American to buy into Medicare. Single-payer would be even better. A robust public option could theoretically be acceptable. Anything less is an insult to Americans and a giveaway to narrow and destructive insurance company interests.

Earth to Dane, you might want to read this… Shocker: Medicare Has A Higher Claim Denial Rate Than Private Sector Employers

Have at it Dane, you go for it. Also, I suspect the network of doctors accepting Medicare patients is substantially smaller than those available from private insurers. It will only get worse as the number of people on Medicare increases and the reimbursement rates decline. There really does need to be an option for all the liberals and progressives that hate health insurance companies. However, the taxpayers shouldn’t subsidize it.

Michael Goodwin would like to change his vote

Michael now regrets voting for Obama. Perhaps Michael and Peggy Noonan from the Wall Street Journal should get together for a few drinks. I particularly like this admission from Michael…

President Obama, for whom I voted because I believed he was the best choice available, is a profound disappointment. I now regard his campaign as a sly bait-and-switch operation, promising one thing and delivering another. Shame on me.

Equally surprising, he has become an insufferable bore. The grace notes and charm have vanished, with peevishness and petty spite his default emotions. His rhetorical gifts now serve his loathsome habit of fear-mongering.

“Time is running out,” he says, over and again. He said it on health care, on the stimulus, in Copenhagen, on Iran.

There were no good choices for the last election. What is becoming more apparent by the day is that Obama was a bad choice. Let’s just hope that time is running out for him. Of course that will take another 3 years but the makeup of the House and Senate can change dramatically in less than one year.

Blame the Smug Climate warriors

So say Thaddeus Russell at The Daily Beast. Seems like the people Mr. Russell is concerned about would include Clay Evans at the Daily Camera who recently editorialized about global warming in Al Gore like terms.

I comment on Clay’s editorial here and here.

Mr. Russell also mentions Al Gore’s references to spirituality and religion. I wonder how Mr. Evans views this as he has been openly hostile to most organized religion (at least of the Christian variety). Now that the shoe is on the other foot, it might no be so bad?

The Left, the Right and the American Public Couldn’t Stop 60 Votes

The world will understand America has changed. Our country is now run by elites who are printing money, debasing our currency to throw at massive new spending and deficit creating programs — and actually believe they are both moral and politically smart. Just 19% of the public believes this plan will not increase the deficit.

So now we know 19% of the public is very very stoopid.
