It’s been disconcerting to learn that “climate change denier” might mean different things to different people; disconcerting in the sense that I have less certainty about how people are interpreting it. Last year I listened to a discussion with the co-authors of “Science Left Behind,” a book talking about how progressives are abusing the name of science to advance whatever agendas they have. They also talked about “climate deniers” on the Right. I was confused, but interested to hear what they had to say about that. I didn’t hear any specifics. So I went by realclearscience.com, which they had a role in running, and as best I could make out, what they meant by it was that there were people on the Right who were trying to silence any suggestions that humans were causing global warming. It wasn’t necessarily that they believed that humans *were* causing it, but there were people denying it, but rather that there were people on the Right who were squelching the debate, and that’s what they didn’t like. Maybe I was reading too much into it.

By the same token, I guess I’d like to hear more from Sally about what she means by this, though since she pointed to anecdotes about stuff melting, I’m getting the idea that she’s saying, “Look. We’re causing this.” I think what she does once she gets into the position will be more telling.
