Tuition inflation: So you thought medical costs were spiraling out of control

Repeatedly the editorial staff of the Daily Camera warns us of obesity, climate change and the cost of healthcare. However, they are strangely silent about the worst inflation of all, the cost of higher education.

Inflation of College Tuition compared to Medical Care, New Car, Food and Energy

One really has to wonder why they are so quiet on this issue. This inflation has the following fairly obvious detrimental effects:

  •  Prevents many students from attending institutions of higher learning
  • Burderns others with very high debt levels that will take years to repay. Not to mention, most student loan debt cannot be discharged in bankruptcy court

Perhaps, just perhaps, it’s because the government has already tried to solve the problem with student loans. How else could the cost of attending college increase so dramatically unless the government was guaranteeing the loans, which provided the fuel for the inflationary spiral?
