I tend to agree. If they can't come to something that's reasonable, let the Democrats do the unreasonable thing, all by themselves, and let them own it. The thing is, the structure of the legislature doesn't let the Republicans do that. The only way the Democrats can get what they want is for the Republicans to go along with it, because they're the majority in the House. The Democrats in the House can't pass anything by themselves. The only way the Republicans in the House could do this is to put forward their plan for a solution, let it die in the Senate, and then let the fiscal cliff happen, and blame whatever ills happen on the Democrats, for not coming to the table and compromising.
