Ed Driscoll: Prominent Environmentalist Finally Discovers His Religion’s Catch-22

Other examples of applauding economic malaise from from none other than John Kerry and then Candidate Obama are included.

However, radical enviromentalist George Monbiot of the UK Guardian is changing his tune. I’ll just leave you with his recent statements regarding Nuclear Power…

You will not be surprised to hear that the events in Japan have  changed my view of nuclear power. You will be surprised to hear how they  have changed it. As a result of the disaster at Fukushima, I am no  longer nuclear-neutral. I now support the technology.

A crappy old  plant with inadequate safety features was hit by a monster earthquake  and a vast tsunami. The electricity supply failed, knocking out the  cooling system. The reactors began to explode and melt down. The  disaster exposed a familiar legacy of poor design and corner-cutting.  Yet, as far as we know, no one has yet received a lethal dose of  radiation.

Boulderites, there’s a real world outside the 24 square miles… enjoy your municipal power.

Boulder Muni…

Boulder Municipalization: Are Progressives dressed in sheep’s clothing?

Joel Kotkin: Progessives, preservation & prosperity

Many American progressives have shifted from their historic interest in economic growth and social mobility to a primary focus on environmental purity, whatever the social or economic cost.

If they are, I suggest that SUV driving “middle of the road” Boulderites need to get rid of the guilty conscience and make  their voice heard in the municipalization debate. The only way, I repeat the ONLY way that a Boulder Municipal electric utility will be competitive with Xcel is if:

  1. There are State or Federal mandates that force Xcel to deliver very expensive power OR
  2. Fossil fuels rise to extravagant levels (no wonder the anti-fracking movement is so strong in Boulder)

Ok, that’s TWO ways and am too lazy to rewrite the above sentence. Frankly, I hope Boulder gets what they deserve.

The guy wasn’t even interviewed

Why Men are silent.

I recently heard a surprising story: A female CEO was briefed on a stellar candidate for a top job at her company. “Sounds ideal,” she said to the group in the room. “Male or female?” Male was the answer. “Damn” was her audible response. The guy wasn’t even interviewed. (emphasis added)

You can’t make this stull up. Read the whole thing.

Krauthammer on Obamacare: “I think it’s going to be a trainwreck”

He’s talking a “fiscal” trainwreck. This interview is discussing where the money will come from if the medical device tax is repealed.

With his final conclusiong being that it will lead to a Canadian type health care system.

The Obamacare Nightmare

It’s so bad, I don’t know where to start. The first portion of Obamacare to become visible to the general public are the Health Insurance Exchanges. Some States are creating their on exchanges and others are defaulting to a Government run exchange. View your states health insurance exchange plans here.

The exchanges should all be up and functioning by October 1st of this year. Let me make a rather bold prediction.

THEY WILL NOT BE READY

No way, no how. Also, this really isn’t a bold prediction if you’ve been paying attention.

Coming soon: Men on Strike

A new book from Dr. Helen Smith:

Men On Strike by Dr. Helen Smith

From the book description on Amazon:

American society has become anti-male. Men are sensing the backlash and are consciously and unconsciously going “on strike.” They are dropping out of college, leaving the workforce and avoiding marriage and fatherhood at alarming rates. The trend is so pronounced that a number of books have been written about this “man-child” phenomenon, concluding that men have taken a vacation from responsibility simply because they can. But why should men participate in a system that seems to be increasingly stacked against them?

As Men on Strike demonstrates, men aren’t dropping out because they are stuck in arrested development. They are instead acting rationally in response to the lack of incentives society offers them to be responsible fathers, husbands and providers. In addition, men are going on strike, either consciously or unconsciously, because they do not want to be injured by the myriad of laws, attitudes and hostility against them for the crime of happening to be male in the twenty-first century. Men are starting to fight back against the backlash. Men on Strike explains their battle cry.

Support Men, buy this book! Available June 18th.

Boulderite GOP Stereotyping

The picture below is from a Boulder Facebook “friend”:

GOP Stereotyping

Yes I realize that I’m guilty of stereotyping as well, but at least I see it and acknowlege it. Personally, I believe it reflects poorly on the poster but that’s a giant blind spot she most likely doesn’t see. Also, I probably qualify as an “Old White Man”.  😉

Oh, and how was the diversity of Obama’s cabinet? Nothing to see here, move along.

Whole Foods CEO John Mackey on Capitalism

Whole Foods CEO John Mackey is interviewed on the John Stossel show.

While we’re talking John Mackey, here’s a CNBC interview with John regarding Obamacare….

I’m expecting the Boulder Whole Foods parking lot to be empty tomorrow as Boulderites boycott Whole Foods. From the first video:

For the record, I”m running the most profitable food retailer in the United States.

We’re not “Whole Food” people plus I wouldn’t put up with the parking lot on a regular basis. All that said, keep up the great work John. I expect Boulderites, and many others, to trade with you for years to come.

Honestly, who is stoopid enought to buy this debt?

CA Approves $8.6B More Debt for High-Speed Rail

While California suffers through a nation-high 9.8 percent unemployment rate, a state budget debt of $34 billion, and $766 billion in unfunded liabilities, Democrat-appointed officials have okayed borrowing another $8.6 billion to begin work on the state’s vaunted high-speed rail. The rail will supposedly cost $68 billion, but some estimates have placed the cost at above $100 billion. The state has not yet bought the land on which the rail is supposed to lie.

It truly boggles the mind. It must be the moral hazard created by the Fed’s continually bailing  out companies (and soon to be States). California obviously has a “too big to fail” mentality. Very very dangerous.

Obama priorities

Obama Submits NCAA Bracket, but Not Federal Budget

As he left for the Middle East, President Barack Obama completed his 2013 NCAA tournament brackets for both men’s and women’s basketball. He has not, however, submitted a budget to Congress, and will do so only on April 8, two months after the deadline and on the day of the NCAA men’s basketball championship itself.

Wow what a surprise.

Boulderites: News you can use but don’t want to hear

Pew Study Proves Fox News’ Critics Horribly, Terribly, Completely Wrong

The Pew Research Center backs this up with a new study that looks at MSNBC, Fox, and CNN, and documents the time each network spends on commentary/opinion as compared to factual reporting.

What Pew found is that the outlier is MSNBC: 85% opinion, 15% reporting. Fox News, however, is much closer to CNN. Whereas CNN spends 54% of the time reporting and 46% on commentary, Fox News spends 55% on commentary and 45% reporting.

Looking forward to seeing this reported in either the Denver Post of the Boulder Daily Camera.

Cypress: Get up to speed…

The Absolute Moron’s Guide to What’s Happening in Cyprus

Even if you, like most Americans, have no idea where Cyprus is or why anyone would care what goes on there, the fact remains that if you want to be a civilized person with a reasonably good grasp of major world events, you should know what the hell is happening. So we’re here to help, with an Absolute Moron’s Guide to the situation in Cyprus.

Cypress contagion: No worries in the United States

As the Cypress contagion spreads to Greece we are reassured that our bank deposits are safe. Let’s see:

  • $25 billion in the FDIC insurance fund
  • $9,283 billion in deposits
  • $297,514 billion in derivatives

Nothing to see here, move along.

Perhaps a visual aid will put things in perspective:

Magpul receives invitation

Magpul, which will be leaving Colorado due to the imminent passage of new Colorado gun laws received an invitation from Instaundit’s Glenn Reynolds to come to Tennessee.

Hey, Magpul — come to Tennessee!  No state income tax, lower property taxes, a gun-friendly environment and workforce.  You’ll love it!

The Volunteer state seems like a good home for Magpul.

Cypress from the Instapundit viewpoint

Glenn’s comment regarding Savings account seizure plan draws fury in Cyprus

WHO COULD HAVE SEEN THIS COMING? (emphasis added)

and he follows up with a suggestion for Republicans:

If I were a Republican in Congress, I’d introduce a bill — tomorrow! — banning, and, in fact, criminalizing, such seizures in the United States.  That would be popular, and if the Democrats were dumb enough to oppose it, it would make people wonder what they were up to.

I disagree with Glenn. The Democrats, who believe we don’t have a debt problem, would ridicule Republicans as “financial wackos” trying to terrorize the American public about an event that is as unlikely to happen as the Sun not rising tomorrow. Laying out the story for the Democrats would be the main stream media.

Added:

Getting back to Glenn Reynold’s question “Who could have seen this coming”, Financial Times writer Wolfgang Münchau speculates in his article Europe is risking a bank run as follows:

The really puzzling thing is why did people not withdraw their money before? Did  they not read the newspapers? Maybe they trusted the new president of Cyprus,  who had promised them that he would never accept this? And why has there been so  little deposit flight elsewhere in southern Europe? Did they, too, trust their  governments? More importantly, will they continue to do so now?

In whatever country you happen to live you should ask yourself two questions:

  1. Do you trust your government?
  2. Do you trust your banking system and monetary authorities?

Boulder should take some lessons from Bill Maher

Maher: Bloomberg’s Ban On Sodas “Makes Liberals Look Bad”

I am for overturning this ban,” HBO host Bill Maher said about New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg’s soda ban. “I think this is what makes liberals look bad. This is what makes liberals look like elitist bullies who think they know everything and can tell people what to do.”

“Of course childhood obesity, in general obesity is a problem, but this is a very lazy way to handle it, to ban sodas over 16 ounces. Does anyone disagree with that?” Maher asked on his HBO show “Real Time” this Friday.

Elitist bullies who think they know everything and can tell people what to do. Hey, So Boulder, what can I say?
