Marijuana: News Boulderites can use

Marijuana Repeal Considered In Colorado « CBS Denver.

Lawmakers from both parties have expressed worry this year that Colorado won’t be able to afford to give recreational pot the kind of intense oversight and regulation many expect. From labeling and potency standards to making sure pot taxes are collected, the regulatory scheme under consideration in Colorado wouldn’t be cheap.

The tax doesn’t effect me, but if you make it too high it will drive marijuana production underground again. One must wonder why the low consumption consumer doesn’t grow their own. Obviously I’m not up to speed on this subject, and I’m “OK” with that.

Added: Since Boulderites rarely meet a tax they haven’t liked, my suggestion to the state legislature is they raise the tax high enough to make Boulderites “scream in protest” and back off 5%.

Boulderites, a question for you…

As Betsy asked: Did anyone who supported Obama in 2008 imagine how many of Bush’s policies Obama would still be using five years into his presidency?

Inquiring minds want to know.

A West Virginia teen who was arrested and suspended for wearing a National Rifle Association T-shirt to school returned to class Monday wearing the same shirt that got him into trouble.

Jared Marcum, 14, was joined by about 100 other students across Logan County who wore shirts with a similar gun rights theme in a show of support for free speech.

Gun Shows Across the Nation Draw Record Crowds, Even After Toomey-Manchin Bill Fails

Imagine that.

Gun shows across the nation have experienced record turnout, even as the federal gun control push has hit a major roadblock.

April gun shows – both before and after the Senate killed the Toomey-Manchin bill – have seen record crowds, as many fear the debate over the Second Amendment is not yet over.

Well, I’m pretty positive about that.

But they are victims of kangaroo courts and angry feminists regardless of their denial.

We’re talking men, college aged men: The War on Men on Campus: Kangaroo Courts and Angry Feminists Await

The discrimination will continue because there is no push back. If 5-10 percent of men fought back, stood up and started realizing that men’s rights are human rights and that they are not victims for daring to believe that their voices in gender and reproductive equality are just as important as a woman’s is, then maybe things will start to change. Until then, the kangaroo courts and angry feminists will have their day.

I don’t see this changing for a helluva long time. Many thanks to Dr. Helen Smith for having the courage to carry the baton on this issue. Of course, her book is coming out in June. Men on Strike: Why Men Are Boycotting Marriage, Fatherhood, and the American Dream – and Why It Matters

EXCLUSIVE: Health Department struggled to find restaurant for HQ that would comply with nanny-state provisions – NYPOST.com.

Fat chance serving food to Nanny Bloomberg’s brigades.

The city Health Department has been trying for two years to get a restaurateur to operate a cafe in its headquarters — but it required so many nanny-state provisions that no one applied.

Unbelievable. Sounds like something Boulder would do.

Apple records and keeps users’ Siri queries for up to 2 years – latimes.com

Be careful out there.

Siri isn’t just a pretty voice with the answers. It’s also been recording and keeping all the questions users ask.

Exactly what the voice assistant does with the data isn’t clear, but Apple confirmed that it keeps users’ questions for up to two years. Siri, which needs to be connected to the Internet to function, sends all of its users’ queries to Apple.

If there’s a silver lining to this cloud…

Technically Apple keeps Siri user data for six months, associating that data with the user. After that time, the company will disassociate users from the data, meaning it will remove any identifiers for who input that particular query into Siri. But for the next 18 months, Apple said, it keeps the disassociated data for the sake of product testing and improvement purposes.

Well, I feel better already. 😉

Mr. Obama’s effort at emotional blackmail has failed

“Mr. Obama’s effort at emotional blackmail has failed, and in bitterly lashing out at those who called him out on his demagoguery, he went some distance toward confirming that he is, in fact, a demagogue.  Three months into his second term, Mr. Obama is becoming an increasingly bitter and powerless figure. When a man who views himself as a world-historic figure and our Moral Superior commands things to happen and they don’t, it isn’t a pretty sight. See yesterday’s Rose Garden statement for more.”

More.

Hey Moral Superior, maybe that’s a new name for Boulder.

Earth Day: Celebrate Earth – Android Apps on Google Play

Boulderites, news you can use: Earth Day: Celebrate Earth – Android Apps on Google Play.

Celebrate Earth

Earth Day is an annual celebration, that, instead of blowing up balloons and eating cake, aims to make the world in which we live a better, more sustainable place. This global event is now commemorated in more than 192 countries each year. Google Play joins the party with this collection of Apps, Music, Books, Movie, TV and Magazines that teaches and inspires us on how to go green, whether it’s conserving energy, being awed by natural wonders, composting in the big city, or listening to music that creates an ambient landscape. A reminder that downloading digital content leaves a zero carbon footprint, so feel free to indulge as we salute the planet.

Also, apparently no electrons are “used” in the stroage or digital download. I’m not quite sure how that works.

James Altucher: Why Do People Hate Their Jobs?

James Altucher: Why Do People Hate Their Jobs?.

I limped out of the meeting and said, “excuse me”, and took the elevator down 67 stories, went to Grand Central, limped home, and never went back to work at that job.

This description hits home with me…

A few days earlier I had discussed with the managing partner how I would get paid if I brought in a huge deal. He smiled and said, “Trust me, James, I always take care of everyone.

When someone says “trust me” or “I will make you rich” then I know general fuckness will result.

“General fuckness will result”…. gotta love it.

James concludes that hope is NOT lost…

This is not meant to be depressing. Nor does it mean everyone hates their jobs. There are many ways to be an “entre-ployee” where you don’t have the standard job. To be clear: There are more opportunities than ever. But you have to prepare the body and mind and spirit to find those opportunities.

Then you take the magic pill and the tears of dirt wipe away. Come here, pretty baby, and let me hug you.

Prepare away and may “the force be with you”. Oh and there’s a book coming out!

[On June 1, I’m releasing a book, “Choose Yourself!” about how to avoid the whole job thing. Please join my email list and I will update with special material or offers or whatever. It will be fun. Also, if you can think of more reasons people hate their jobs, please put them in the comments]

Postmaster General: USPS Losing $25 Million A DAY

Postmaster General: USPS Losing $25 Million A DAY.

“The postal service is currently operating with a broken business model. Since the economic recession of 2008 we have been experiencing a significant imbalance between revenues and costs. This imbalance will only get worse in the coming decade unless laws that govern the postal service are changed. The past two years the postal service has recorded $21 billion in losses including a default of $11.1 billion in payments to the United States Treasury. The postal service has exhausted its borrowing authority and continues to contend with dangerously low liquidity. We are losing $25 million a day and we are on an unsustainable path.”

I sure HOPE this is not either news or a surprise to anyone. The fact that the US government CANNOT address a problem that is so simple and straightforward as the USPS budget is NOT a good sign for addressing more complicated financial issues.

Dr. Helen » “Men on Strike” Now Ready for Pre-Order

Dr. Helen » “Men on Strike” Now Ready for Pre-Order.

Men On Strike by Dr. Helen Smith

I would very much appreciate it if readers could help me get the book up in the Amazon rankings as this results in advance orders for the book. I was told that men would not buy a book about gender issues or men’s rights but I believe that is incorrect. Men don’t buy these books because they are generally critical of men and look at gender issues through the eyes of women. Men on Strike: Why Men Are Boycotting Marriage, Fatherhood, and the American Dream – and Why It Matters is a book about men, how they feel, what they think and how they have reached the point of opting out of marriage, college and other aspects of American society. It is a book about many of you –the readers of this blog and the insights you have given me over the years.  I thank all of you for that.

It is important to bring men’s issues, rights and concerns into the mainstream. Please help me to do this by purchasing a copy of the book. I may not be the best person for this job but I am here and trying to get the word out. Please support the book and men’s rights–even if you just use the book as a door-stop, buying it will let the publishing world know that there are men (and women) who care about men’s issues.
