Nearly 1,200 people have starved to death in NHS hospitals

Coming soon to a country near you:  Nearly 1,200 people have starved to death in NHS hospitals because ‘nurses are too busy to feed patients’ | Mail Online.

As many as 1,165 people starved to death in NHS hospitals over the past four years fuelling claims nurses are too busy to feed their patients.

The Department of Health branded the figures ‘unacceptable’ and said the number of unannounced inspections by the care watchdog will increase.

Wow, that’s comforting. You’d have to be pretty damn sick to go to an NHS hospital. Of course, one of the key questions is can you avoid them?

NHS is the National Health Service in the United Kingdom.

MSM: The news is in the very best of hands

Doesn’t fit the narrative:STUDY: Networks Air over 90 Global Warming Stories, Ignore Lull in Temperature Trends.

The news departments at the Big Three TV networks have done 92 new stories on the global warming debate recently, but not one of them informed viewers that there has been a decade-long lull in rising temperatures.

Is climate change a serious problem?

But the Big Three networks may be harping on a story that is starting to fall on deaf ears. A new poll by the Pew Research Center has found that Americans are not particularly concerned with global warming these days.

In the latest poll only 40 percent of the American respondents said that global warming was a threat to the country, that compared to 54 percent of respondents in foreign countries.

The MSM keeps beating the drum but the general public has grown deaf, and justifiably so. Boulder, not so much.

Global warming models could be ‘fundamentally wrong’

Global warming models could be ‘fundamentally wrong’ | The Daily Caller.

In an interview with the German news publication Der Spiegel, meteorologist Hans von Storch said that scientists are so puzzled by the 15-year standstill in global warming that if the trend continues their models could be “fundamentally wrong.”

“If things continue as they have been, in five years, at the latest, we will need to acknowledge that something is fundamentally wrong with our climate models,” Storch told Der Spiegel. “A 20-year pause in global warming does not occur in a single modeled scenario. But even today, we are finding it very difficult to reconcile actual temperature trends with our expectations.”

Possible explanations…

“There are two conceivable explanations — and neither is very pleasant for us,” said Storch. “The first possibility is that less global warming is occurring than expected because greenhouse gases, especially CO2, have less of an effect than we have assumed. This wouldn’t mean that there is no man-made greenhouse effect, but simply that our effect on climate events is not as great as we have believed.”

“The other possibility is that, in our simulations, we have underestimated how much the climate fluctuates owing to natural causes,” Storch added.

If the models are based on theory, than the theory is wrong. Now if the models aren’t based on theory, what are they based on?

In Debate Over Military Sexual Assault, Men Are Overlooked Victims

In Debate Over Military Sexual Assault, Men Are Overlooked Victims – NYTimes.com.

But in a debate that has focused largely on women, this fact is often overlooked: the majority of service members who are sexually assaulted each year are men.

In its latest report on sexual assault, the Pentagon estimated that 26,000 service members experienced unwanted sexual contact in 2012, up from 19,000 in 2010. Of those cases, the Pentagon says, 53 percent involved attacks on men, mostly by other men.

“It’s easy for some people to single out women and say: ‘There’s a small percentage of the force having this problem,’ ” said First Lt. Adam Cohen, who said he was raped by a superior officer. “No one wants to admit this problem affects everyone. Both genders, of all ranks. It’s a cultural problem.”

Though women, who represent about 15 percent of the force, are significantly more likely to be sexually assaulted in the military than men, experts say assaults against men have been vastly underreported. For that reason, the majority of formal complaints of military sexual assault have been filed by women, even though the majority of victims are thought to be men.

Immigration Bill Riddled with Pork

I thoughtObama was going to fix this idiocy: Immigration Bill Riddled with Pork.

Lobbyists for resorts, au pair agencies, and the seafood industry successfully slipped special-interest perks into the Senate immigration bill, reports USA Today. And Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-VT) successfully fought to include in the bill a $1.5 billion taxpayer-funded set aside for youth jobs programs.

The revelations are just the latest in what is shaping up to be a pork-laden immigration bill, says Sen. John Cornyn (R-TX).

“You’re left with a bill that’s chockfull of de facto earmarks, pork-barrel spending and special interest sweeteners, a bill that increase the on-budget deficit, but fails to guarantee a border that’s secure and offers only promises, which historically Congress has been very, very, very, very bad about keeping,” said Cornyn on Wednesday.

Need some reminding of Obama’s intentions regarding pork, and transparency? There’s a good video reminder at the above link. I tried to embed it, but since it’s an autostart embed, I decided against it.

Government cheese gone wild: Who’s in on the Act?

Food Stamp Trafficking: Who’s in on the Act? | Fox Business.

Recently, a husband-and-wife duo from Waco, Texas plead guilty to charges of  food stamp abuse that allegedly scammed the government of $350,000

Magdalena and Jamal Akhter, who run a convenience store, allowed customers  using Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) debit cards to choose the   “cash-back” option when buying items—something that’s not allowed under  the program’s rules. The two then pocketed half the cash and paid the SNAP  beneficiary the rest.

A similar scheme was uncovered in Tampa that also involved a convenience  store owner who reportedly pocketed $735,886 in SNAP benefits 2010 through  2012.

And where does the fraud occur…

Experts say that independently-owned dollar stores and bodegas in low-income  areas are where SNAP fraud runs rampant, not the mega-retailers like Wal-Mart, that get a large payout  from SNAP. The U.S. Department of Agriculture reports that 82% of SNAP benefits  are redeemed at supermarkets and superstores. The remaining 18% of SNAP  beneficiary stores is where the majority of scams take place.

Government cheese gone wild.

IRS auditor reaffirms that conservatives, not liberals, were targeted

So Boulderites have nothing to fear: IRS auditor reaffirms that conservatives, not liberals, were targeted – Washington Times.

The IRS‘ auditor told Congress this week that it stands by its determination that conservative groups were uniquely singled out for special scrutiny by the tax agency, rebutting Democrats’ contention that liberal groups also were targeted.

The Treasury Department’s inspector general for tax administration (TIGTA) sent a letter Wednesday to congressional Democrats telling them that while several liberal groups may have gotten extra scrutiny, the IRS didn’t necessarily target those — but it did do so for conservative groups

No worries, the IRS is only targeting the Tea Party & friends terrorist groups anyway. All is as it should be in the 24 square miles surrounded by reality.

Carrington Event: Solar Flare poses huge threat

Solar Flare poses huge threat: Glenn Reynolds/USA Today.

No, I’m not talking about the threat from asteroid strikes. This time, though, I’m talking about a different kind of civilizational threat: A solar flare that could wipe out the communications and electrical grids while frying a wide variety of electronics, quickly sending us back to the 19th Century.

That’s happened before. In fact, it happened in the 19th Century, with the “Carrington Event” of 1859. A massive solar flare sent a cloud of charged particles that struck the Earth squarely, creating massive currents in the Earth’s magnetic field and sending brilliant auroras south as far as Cuba and Hawaii. About the only thing electrical back then was the telegraph network, and the Carrington event had a literally shocking impact — causing some operators to be shocked, and inducing strong enough currents in the telegraph wires that operators could disconnect the batteries and operate the telegraph off of the flare-induced electrical flow.

Do the City of Boulder cost of municipalization include expenses to deal with a Carrington event, both preventive and the actual cost of repairs? A city that devotes considerable resources to study the 100 year and 500 year flood plains and takes actions involving, zoning, hazard zones and flood diversion projects, one would expect that a Carrington event is built into their cost estimates. Well?

Immigration: Rush the bill through, fix it later

5 Senators Who Support Immigration Bill Don’t Know Answer to Key Question About It | The Weekly Standard.

As the Washington Examiner’s Philip Klein recently reported: “Under Obamacare, businesses with over 50 workers that employ American citizens without offering them qualifying health insurance could be subject to fines of up to $3,000 per worker. But because newly legalized immigrants wouldn’t be eligible for subsidies on the Obamacare exchanges until after they become citizens – at least 13 years under the Senate bill – businesses could avoid such fines by hiring the new immigrants instead.”

And how did these 5 Senators repond to questions about this problem?

On Tuesday afternoon, THE WEEKLY STANDARD asked five different U.S. Senators about this problem. These five senators, all Democrats, voted to cut off debate Monday night on the revised immigration bill, but none of them knew if the bill would create a financial incentive for some employers to hire amnestied immigrants instead of American citizens.

“We’re trying to solve that right now. I don’t know if that’s been solved,” Senator Max Baucus of Montana (chief author of Obamacare) told THE WEEKLY STANDARD.

“I don’t know. I’d have to look at it closely,” said Senator Bob Casey of Pennsylvania. “I just haven’t read it that closely to know.”

Senator Richard Blumenthal of Connecticut said he thought the Affordable Care Act’s fines would apply no matter what. “I’d have to look at the ACA, but I don’t think it distinguishes” between citizens and those on a path to citizenship, Blumenthal said. But then he said he wasn’t quite sure. “I mean I’d have to look. You’re asking a legal question. It’s not an opinion question,” Blumenthal added. “I don’t recall any distinction in the law. But that’s a good question. I’d have to check.”

Senator Tom Carper of Delaware said he was too busy to answer the question. “I don’t have the time to drill down on it right now,” he told me. And Senator Barbara Boxer of California replied with something of a non sequitur before the Senators-only elevator doors closed in my face. “I think if you work for an employer who offers health care, you will get the health care you want,” Boxer said. Spokesmen for Senators McCain and Rubio did not reply to a request for comment.

When you create such complex bills and don’t subject them to the light of day, this is the clusterf___ you get and the one you deserve.

Have any of these guys ever heard of Keep It Simple Stoopid? Now THERE’S a stoopid question.

All this over an NRA t-shirt?

Prosecution Attempts Gag Order in Jared Marcum NRA T-Shirt Case – WOWK 13 Charleston, Huntington WV News, Weather, Sports.

Prosecutors were hoping to bar Jared, his father and his lawyer from sharing their story with the press, under the guise that their request would serve Jared’s better interest, something Jared’s father Allen Lardieri sees as ironic.

“It was for Jared’s better interest is what I was told, which seems to be a bit odd to me,” Lardieri said. “These are the same individuals that are trying to prosecute him, so as far as them knowing what is in his better interest, I have a lot of questions about that.”

Let me get this straight… the Logan County prosecuter is looking out for the best interest of the defense attorney’s client??? Doesn’t the prosecutor have something better to do? Logan County should be embarrassed.
