You have to ask?

Faster please – Is Obamacare Destroying the Democratic Party? – NYTimes.com.

The ability of the Democratic Party to convince middle-class voters that it is on their side is by no means guaranteed. In mid-November, 2008, just after Obama first won election, 55 percent of voters had a favorable view of the Democratic Party. In the immediate aftermath of the recent election, according to Gallup, the favorability rating of the Democratic Party had fallen to a record low of 36 percent.

Keep up the good work.

Expensive electricity and road maintenance will damage the Democratic narrative in Boulder.

Canada/Alberta Hospitals: From burst pipes to invading ant colonies…

Government run healthcare – From burst pipes to invading ant colonies, problems plague Alberta’s hospitals.

While many Albertans know of the infrastructure failings at Misericordia Hospital, the truth is many more of Alberta’s hospitals are experiencing breakdowns that put extra pressure on staff, compromise patient care, and make it difficult to keep the facilities running at full capacity.

In most cases, the public never hears about them.

“These campus policies are pure gold for trial lawyers. . .”

notes Instpundit. Swarthmore drops findings against male student who sued under Title IX @insidehighered.

Swarthmore College has vacated the findings of a campus judicial process that led to a lawsuit that charged the college with gender-based discrimination against male students accused of sexual misconduct.

The federal judge in the case then agreed to a joint motion from the college and the student (identified only as John Doe) to dismiss the lawsuit, one of several filed by men under Title IX of the Education Amendments of 1972. The suits charge that colleges — facing intense pressure from female students and the U.S. Education Department to crack down on sexual assault — are violating the rights of male students accused of misconduct.

The dismissal of the case does not address the Title IX complaint, but it does represent a dramatic shift for Swarthmore, which has been fighting off the lawsuit and defending the conduct of its investigation and findings in the case.

Bravo for John Doe standing up to Swarthmore. Men need to do that more often and schools need to think twice about letting their campus judicial process run wild.

Oil at $40 Possible

Oil at $40 Possible as Market Transforms From Caracas to Tehran – Yahoo Finance.

Few expected the extent or speed of the U.S. oil resurgence. As wildcatters unlocked new energy supplies, some oil exporters abroad failed to invest in diversifying their economies. Coddled by years of $100 crude, governments instead spent that windfall subsidizing everything from 5 cents-per-gallon gasoline to cheap housing that kept a growing population of underemployed citizens content.

Those handouts are now at risk. (emphasis added)

Bring it on.

Lots of ramifications to the price drop. Cheap energy is good. When green energy is cheap energy, that will be good too.

Added: The Boulder energy vision is expressed in this HuffPo article: The Cheap Oil Curse.

The fact is that markets price energy wrong. They price oil and gas based on current demand and supply, and not based on the costs to the planet in pollution, global climate change, sea level rise, and more. This is, as Lord Nicholas Stern famously put it, history’s greatest case of market failure.

Recent events demonstrate the sheer radicalism of the necessary cure. Business as usual is just too convenient, too easy, and incremental change will not save the planet.

Sure, oil production will peak at some point. But by then the earth could be a very unpleasant place. Sorry, folks, but the argument that we are running out of oil just doesn’t cut it. If only things were that simple.

No sleep is being lost here worrying about climate change and hence sea level rise. Worst case, these changes are on trend” and best case they have stopped. Articles are now appearing that mention global cooling due to the substantially lower sunspots expected for the next few decades. The fear mongering is all getting a little old.

So Boulder: The fixation of the Utopian Left

A Desire Named Streetcar | Power Line.

After the fetish for renewable energy that’s expensive and intermittent, the greatest fixation of the utopian left is mass transit, especially light rail—a 19th century technology for 21st century mobility needs. (Who says the left isn’t reactionary?)

The article goes on to detail how the 2009 stimulus funded a street car manufacturing company in Portland OR that has turned out to be a total bust. Perhaps Boulder or RTD could purchase the assets and start a street car manufacturing company on the Pearl Street Mall.

It’s stunning how much money the local government can spend on “green things” but they can’t pave the neighborhood county roads.

Americans, let’s be thankful that U.S. oil is pulverizing OPEC

Unless you’re from Boulder and lower oil prices make green energy look expensive – Americans, let’s be thankful that U.S. oil is pulverizing OPEC – MarketWatch.

Back in the good ole days…

Some numbers, first. In 2005, the U.S. produced about 5 million barrels of oil a day, in a market of about 90 million barrels a day then dominated by the 12 OPEC nations, including Saudi Arabia. And — this is the key part — even with all the growth in Asian nations and a recovery in the U.S., demand for oil is only growing about 1% a year.

Fast forward to today…

As fracking made it possible to extract ever more oil from shale rock, the Oslo-based consulting group Rystad Energy figured the U.S. and Canada would be able to produce 6.5 million barrels a day from shale alone by 2020 (with more coming from traditional wells). This week, Rystad partner Lars-Erik Nicolaisen told me that estimate for shale alone is now up to 12.1 million barrels a day.

And here’s the really funny part, for schadenfreude lovers: This doesn’t even count the Canadian oil sands, whose oil the Keystone XL pipeline is being proposed to carry for companies like Cenovus Energy CVE, -1.74% Those may produce another 4 million or so barrels by then, up from 2 million last year, the Canadian Energy Research Institute says.

So if you connect the dots, you can begin to understand why the left hates fracking. Ok, let me spell it out to you, it screws with the green  energy narrative and is hurting the economies of countries and styles of government they support.

Berkeley beats Boulder again

Coming soon to a city near you – City OKs plan for gas-pump climate change labels – Yahoo News.

Some of the country’s first gas-pump warning labels about climate change are coming to Berkeley, a city with a long history of green and clean policies.

The Berkeley City Council voted late Tuesday to draft a proposal by next spring that will put stickers on gas pumps citywide to warn consumers that burning fuel contributes to global warming.

Obama Puts The Republic Out Of Its Misery

David Harsanyi – Obama Puts The Republic Out Of Its Misery.

Modern Democrats aren’t the first political party to abuse power – far from it. Obama isn’t the first president to abuse executive power – not by a longshot. But he has to be the first president in American history to overtly and consistently argue that he’s empowered to legislate if Congress doesn’t pass the laws he favors. It’s an argument that’s been mainstreamed by partisans and cheered on by those in media desperate to find a morsel of triumph in this presidency.

Obama acknowledges his overreach openly every time he argues that he intends to do the job of an obstinate Republican congress. In his speech, Obama scolded those who question whether he has the authority to change the legal status of millions of people, offering this: “I have one answer: Pass a bill.”

David goes on to point out that Congress is under zero obligation ever, to pass a bill. Ever.

The reason that Obama can apparently get away with this abuse of power is the Democratic worldview that places Republican’s just below the Neanderthal in the evolutionary chain. This also points out how little respect they have for the common man, since the common man just gave control of Congress to the Republicans. There’s a lesson in there somewhere, I’m hoping the Democrat’s ship is totally sunk before they figure that out. With the MSM proclaiming the Obama vision at every opportunity, they should read Megan McArdle’s recent piece on journalism(GruberGate’s Insider Problem), the odds of the ship sinking seem quite high. Can the MSM jump in time? If not, Conservatives will get a 2 for 1 deal.

Since Sharyl Attkisson is the only reporter that is being targeted, it’s quite obvious there’s a problem. Silly Feminists

‘Sexist’ Space Shirt Sales Soar After Feminist Frenzy.

Although Dr. Taylor’s favourite shirt was a hand-made custom given to him by a close friend as a birthday present, a virtually identical shirt made to a similar cut and with the same fabric has long been available online. The shirt, originally referred to by the fabric pattern name ‘New Gunner Girls’ but now refereed to on the website as the ‘Matt Taylor Astronaut’, has been the subject of a rush of orders that has overwhelmed the American manufacturer.

The company has posted an apology for customers not receiving their orders, remarking the entire stock of fabric had been depleted and was now being reprinted, a process that would take a minimum of eight weeks. Over 400 orders had been placed for the shirts at the time of the statement, which is available in styles for women, men, and children.

Revenge of the geeks and non-politically correct “common folk.”  If only the rest of the world was as enlightened as the angry feminists…. NOT. What is it with people who live their life looking to be offended?

SEATTLE’S MINIMUM WAGE CRASH: $15 to ZERO! Profits Tumble!

Is Seattle more stoopid than Boulder? SEATTLE’S MINIMUM WAGE CRASH: $15 to ZERO! Profits Tumble!.

Socialist Council-member Kshama Sawant was the main proponent of the $15 ordinance. She and her supporters denied that the policy change would hurt businesses in the city. In one interview, Sawant said there need be “no unintended consequences.”

“No Unintended Intended Consequences?” Who is she kidding? There are always consequences. In this case the consequences are the businesses that are downsizing, closing and failing, jobs that are lost, and most of all, people whose new hourly wage is ZERO. No unintended intended consequences? Are our politicians really that . . . stupid? Yes, I said it, Stupid. Do they really think taxes are irrelevant, businesses are omnipotent and that they can be drained in the name of politics without “any intended consequences?”

Well… yes the politicians really are that stooped. In Boulder, the pet project is power municipalization and green energy. I’m sure the Boulder City Council elite can take a few minutes of their time saving the planet and insuring expensive electricity to increase the minimum wage.

One wonders how Boulder municipalization will deal with the high cost of energy. Perhaps Obama II will provide the city with green energy subsidies. If not, perhaps Boulderites heads will explode. What a site that would be to see.

Unfortunately, Progressive/socialist Boulderites don’t understand that there’s a “cost too high” even for green energy.

Is Climate change a serious problem part 2

The powerline post, steered me to the source article: On climate, the Right is right – Global temperature update: the Pause is still 18 years 1 month

I suggest Boulderites peruse the article. An excerpt one paragraph/sentence towards the end of the article sums the present state of affairs nicely.

The length of the Great Pause in global warming, significant though it now is, is of less importance than the ever-growing discrepancy between the temperature trends predicted by models and the far less exciting real-world temperature change that has been observed.

Keep the faith Boulderites, keep the faith. When you have the most expensive energy in Colorado and are looking for someone to blame, look in the mirror.

Is climate change a serious problem?

Chill of An Early Winter | Power Line.

Powerline’s John Hinderaker theorizes why climate change is such a partisan issue…

I think because there is hardly any evidence to support the alarmists’ case, so the whole thing is a matter of faith and politics, not science. If you have no particular reason to drink the big government kool-aid, either political or economic, you probably don’t. Monckton points out some of the fundamental evidence that indicates the climate realists are correct:
