Obama net neutrality: Is the cure worse than the disease

YES, next question… Republican FCC Member Warns Net Neutrality Is Not Neutral – Breitbart.

Pai responded that the “Courts have twice thrown out the FCC’s attempts at Internet regulation” during the Obama Administration. On January 14, 2014, the D.C. Federal Circuit Court of Appeals struck down most of the FCC’s November 2011 net neutrality rules. The Appellate Court vacated the FCC’s “anti-discrimination” and “anti-blocking” as essentially discriminatory and blocking in an attempt to again give the FCC political appointees the power to dictate what they believe is honest, equitable, and balanced.

Pai said that after a year of debates responding to the courts twice striking down FCC efforts to regulate the Internet, “There’s no reason to think that the third time will be the charm. Even a cursory look at the plan reveals glaring legal flaws that are sure to mire the agency in the muck of litigation for a long, long time.”

Pai promised he would make further comments as he reviews the plan himself in the next two weeks in the run-up to the FCC’s public vote on February 26. He has blamed the two Democrat Commissioners’ for their dismissal of any negotiations with Congressional Republicans in setting the “basic rules” governing Internet access.

This is insanity pure and simple.

Why You Should Never, Ever Listen When Someone Says ‘You Weren’t Born To Do That’

Everyone is born with something that they struggle with. You need to fight for your own goals, and not somebody else’s standards.

Vaccine non compliance: So Boulder

SEE! – Why the Prius Driving, Composting Set Fears Vaccines | Science/AAAS | News.

Where are the pockets of non-compliance?

I talked to a public health official and asked him what’s the best way to anticipate where there might be higher than normal rates of vaccine noncompliance, and he said take a map and put a pin wherever there’s a Whole Foods. I sort of laughed, and he said, “No, really, I’m not joking.” It’s those communities with the Prius driving, composting, organic food-eating people.

Also fitting perfectly with the Boulder lifestyle is a sense of entitlement…

Also I think there’s a fair amount of entitlement. Not vaccinating your child is basically saying I deserve to rely on the herd immunity that exists in a population. At the most basic level it’s saying I believe vaccines are potentially harmful, and I want other people to vaccinate so I don’t have to. And for people to hide under this and say, “Oh, it’s just a personal decision,” it’s being dishonest. It’s a personal decision in the way drunk driving is a personal decision. It has the potential to affect everyone around you.

As I said, SO BOULDER

Middle School Reading Lists 100 Years Ago vs. Today

Our students are simply not learning these skills in school. What do you think? Are these major problems for our students today? Is Ms. Holmquist on to something with her research and analysis? Or was Hamlet’s mother, the Queen, correct when she said: “The lady doth protest too much, methinks.”

Obamaphone fraud

Massive government subsidies, what could go wrong? – Phone Company ‘Outraged’ By Fraud, Abuse In ‘Obamaphone’ Program « CBS Denver.

To qualify for one of the cellphone plans, you have to be low income — on food stamps, Medicaid, housing assistance or some other government program.

But multiple times a CBS4 producer and reporter found phone agents in Denver circumventing strict government rules to ensure that only the truly needy get the free phones. Vendors, like Total Call, receive massive government subsidies to hand out the phones and the accompanying monthly plans.

If you’re surprised by this, you belong in the 24 square miles surrounded by reality.

Only 720,000 electric vehicles short

Obama to miss goal of 1 million electric vehicles | WashingtonExaminer.com.

The Obama administration will miss its goal of putting 1 million plug-in electric cars on the road by the end of the year, Energy Secretary Ernest Moniz said.

“We’re going to be a few years after the president’s aspirational goal of the end of 2015, but I think that we are within a few years of reaching that goal,” Moniz told the Detroit News.

That mark, which President Obama had set in 2008, has long been in doubt as electric vehicle sales have lagged expectations. The Electric Drive Transportation Association estimated sales hit roughly 280,000 through 2014, including 120,000 last year. Sales could drop this year since gasoline prices are hovering around $2 per gallon.

120,000 were sold last year, making the installed base 280,000. Assuming they continue to sell at 120,000 per year it will take 6 years to meet Obama’s goal of 1 million electric cars. As the article implies, sales are likely to be down for 2015 but perhaps they will increase after that.

The government should stop subsidizing electric cars and let the market find it’s way. At most, I can see some level of government incentivizing charging stations, although I’m not a fan of that either.

Mad World News: If You Hate Michael Moore, Youll LOVE This Green Beret Snipers Letter To Him

Mad World News If You Hate Michael Moore, Youll LOVE This Green Beret Snipers Letter To Him.
It’s typical of “men” like you to criticize the intestinal fortitude, focus, discipline and patriotism of a sniper. It must stem from an inferiority complex or something. But hey, it’s okay cupcake. We snipers are thick skinned and the efforts of world class turds such as yourself to portray us in a negative light only makes us laugh. If you and I were in the same room, I’d throw you a smile and gently pat you on the head knowing you’re nothing more than a mouth breathing, Crisco sweating waste of space not even worthy of being in the presence of a sniper. It’s almost funny how people like you preach things like ‘acceptance’ and ‘not passing judgement’ or ‘labeling people’, but then are the first to do so when a person is in some way dissimilar from you. (emphasis added)

It’s almost funny….

Hopefully the Boulder Police are Taking Notes

State police: Some I-93 protesters were wearing adult diapers | Boston Herald.

“Several of the protesters from Milton scene were found to be wearing adult diapers,” Massachusetts state police spokesman David Procopio said. “Their plan, obviously, was to stay on the highway for a long time.”

Starting at about 8 a.m. today, protesters — who said they were demonstrating to call attention to racial injustice — cut off northbound traffic on Interstate 93 headed towards Boston starting in Milton, and southbound 93 traffic starting in Medford. Some chained themselves to barrels filled with concrete.

Boston Mayor Martin J. Walsh today blasted the expressway protests.

“I think by upsetting and confusing and scaring a lot of people is not the way to get your message across,” Walsh said. “From what I understand, a lot of the protestors did not live in the city of Boston, did not live in the state of Massachusetts. My message to you if you are coming to this state to disrupt things, don’t.” (emphasis added)

Is Bankruptcy coming to Illinois?

Goodbye, Illinois: Residents are leaving for other states – Chicago Tribune.

Even on days when the temperature is above zero, Illinois struggles to keep people here. They’re leaving, in droves, for states with sunnier economic opportunities..

New census data and other figures reveal the cold hard truth: More people are moving away than coming, tipping Illinois last year into the dreadful category of states with declining populations. From July 2013 to July 2014, Illinois shrank by about 10,000 residents in all, joining other states in decline such as West Virginia, Connecticut and Alaska.

Where are they going?

The three states that attract the most Illinois residents are Texas, Florida and California, according to the Illinois Policy Institute, citing 2010 tax records, the most recent available. The moving companies see a lot of people heading for Oregon and North Carolina.

The article doesn’t delve into Illinois’ finances but they are abysmal. Combine losing population with their debt and the potential for a financial “death spiral” is high.

Note to legacy media: Stop Lying

Stop Lying: Media Are Censoring Charlie Hebdo Out Of Fear Of Islam.

With straight faces and an apparent belief that we’d all forgotten the media coverage we’ve been subjected to in recent decades, editors and executives at many media outlets claimed this week that their well-established respect for religion prevents them from showing images that Muslim extremists have used to justify murderous terrorism.

Nobody believes this. Absolutely nobody on earth believes that American journalists operate with deference toward Baptists, Mormons or Catholics, much less an abundance of deference to same. The Episcopal Church? Sure. Nuns on the Bus? Absolutely. The Rev. Jeremiah Wright? Maybe. But even that’s not about religious deference so much as political tribalism.

Mollie Hemmingway then provides analysis of an email from NY Times executive editor Dean Baquet, the last excerpt being…

And obviously don’t expect all to agree. But let’s not forget the Muslim family in Brooklyn who read us and is offended by any depiction of what he sees as his prophet. I don’t give a damn about the head of ISIS but I do care about that family and it is arrogant to ignore them.

To which Mollie responds…

This is not true. It’s absolutely not true that the New York Times cares one whit about the religious (or otherwise) sentiments of peaceful families in Brooklyn. If they did, they wouldn’t run so many depictions of anti-semitic caricatures in stories about anti-semitic caricatures. Or of blasphemous anti-Christian art in stories about blasphemous anti-Christian art. Or of gross ethnic and racial stereotypes in stories about gross ethnic and racial stereotypes. When the New York Times wrote about Catholic outrage over an art exhibit that featured a “black Madonna with a clump of elephant dung on breast & cutouts of genitalia,” that story featured a color photo of the art in question. Heck, it still does. Right there on the web site.

I’ll go further. If the New York Times’ deep respect for the religious sentiments of its readers affected its news judgment, it would know what Easter is. And it would have condemned Bill Keller, not promoted him and published his bizarre bigoted rants over the years.

It’s one thing for Dean Baquet to micturate on us. But it’s entirely another for him to tell us it’s raining.

There are many links in her response, so I recommend you read the original article. Just so you know, micturate is a synonymn for urinate.

Ms. Hemingway goes on to examine the history of one sided censorship. Read the whole thing.
