Thin skin

Jim Cramer remarks on the Obama administrations thin skin (among other things!)…

President Obama’s team, unlike Bush’s team, demonstrates a thinness of skin that shocks me. When I somewhat obviously and empirically judged that the populist Obama administration is exacerbating the crisis with its budget and policies, as evidenced by the incredible decline in the averages since his inauguration, I was met immediately with condescension and ridicule rather than constructive debate or even just benign dismissal. I said to myself, “What the heck? Are they really that blind to the Great Wealth Destruction they are causing with their decisions to demonize the bankers, raise taxes for the wealthy, advocate draconian cap-and-trade policies and upend the health care system? Do they really believe that only the rich own stocks? What do they think we have our retirement accounts in, CDs? Where did they think that the money saved for college went, our mattresses? Do they think the great middle class banks at the First National Bank of Sealy and only the wealthiest traffic in the Standard & Poor’s 500?”

Banning red light cameras

Turns out a number of states have done exactly that.

Boulder needs more money

Yep, so they’re adding red light cameras at the eastbound approach of the Arapahoe and 30th intersection and the eastbound approach of Baseline and 27th way.

Map of Arapahoe and 30th intersection.

Red light runners, looks like you have a little over a month until the cameras are operational.

Cowern said both Arapahoe Avenue at 30th Street and the Baseline intersection have had lots of red-light accidents and made good candidates for the cameras. Installation work will take most of this month, and the cameras are expected to be turned on the first week of April.

In the 5 weeks leading up to the change, why doesn’t the City experiement with longer yellow lights? The Arapahoe and 30th intersection is set to 3.5 seconds. Don’t know what the Baseline and 27th Way timing is set to.

Have teleprompter, will travel

I find this disconcerting for the leader of the free world.

Obama’s reliance on the teleprompter is unusual — not only because he is famous for his oratory, but because no other president has used one so consistently and at so many events, large and small.

After the teleprompter malfunctioned a few times last summer and Obama delivered some less-than-soaring speeches, reports surfaced that he was training to wean himself off of the device while on vacation in Hawaii. But no such luck.

No doubt he needs a calculator to do simple math.

Fleckenstein: Not time to buy yet

No hurry yet according to Bill.

What we are presently experiencing is the intersectio fo the financial crisis with the economic crisis. The problem is the economic issues are not feeding back into the financial system. Sounds like fun!

Omnibus spending bill

Indiana Senator Evan Bayh calls on his fellow Senators to defeat the Omnibus spending bill in its present form.

But the bloated omnibus requires sacrifice from no one, least of all the government. It only exacerbates the problem and hastens the day of reckoning. Voters rightly demanded change in November’s election, but this approach to spending represents business as usual in Washington, not the voters’ mandate.

Now is the time to win back the confidence and trust of the American people. Congress should vote “no” on this omnibus and show working families across the country that we are as committed to living within our means as they are.

Amen.

Democrats laughing all the way to the bank

James Carville and his Democrat friends appear to be executing their plan to perfection.

Top Democrats believe they have struck political gold by depicting Rush Limbaugh as the new face of the Republican Party, a full-scale effort first hatched by some of the most familiar names in politics and now being guided in part from inside the White House.

The article goes on to note…

The seeds were planted in October after Democracy Corps, the Democratic polling company run by Carville and Greenberg, included Limbaugh’s name in a survey and found that many Americans just don’t like him.

“His positives for voters under 40 was 11 percent,” Carville recalled with a degree of amazement, alluding to a question about whether voters had a positive or negative view of the talk show host.

Hmmm, at 11% for under 40 voters, the odds seem a lot higher that it will increase rather than decrease. We shall see who has the last laugh. Of course, there isn’t a last laugh is there?

Going Galt

Michelle picks up the John Galt bandwagon. This portion stands out to me…

Enough. While they take to the streets politically, untold numbers of America’s wealth producers are going on strike financially. Dr. Helen Smith, a Tennessee forensic psychologist and political blogger, dubbed the phenomenon “Going Galt” last fall. It’s a reference to the famed Ayn Rand novel “Atlas Shrugged,” in which protagonist John Galt leads the entrepreneurial class to cease productive activities in order to starve the government of revenue. (Not coincidentally, Rand’s novel sales are up and John Galt references punctuated many of the Tea Party demonstrations.) Dr. Smith was inundated with stories like these:

“I have frozen hiring in my firm. … No investments will be made in taxable accounts — only 401k/IRAs. I am buying silver and gold instead of CDs or stocks with non-qualified money and savings. I have stopped taking new clients, thus freezing my income. I barter more and more. Spend less. I stopped leveraging assets (don’t borrow).”

Hat-tip to Dr. Helen.

What I learned at Buzz Coffee this morning

Well, the actual lesson was how I entered Buzz Coffee.

First, it was a “late start” day today for St. Vrain Valley school district. The youngest daughter (7th grade) and I decided to stop by Buzz Coffee for hot chocolate and a pastry before school. See the picture of Buzz Coffee below…

The picture is “captured” from the web site today… note it says “The Door is OPEN Today”. That refers to the garage door and sure enough it was/is open. Well your stoopid idiot host, who will admit to being slightly pre-occupied, didn’t walk through the wide open garage door, he opened the regular door. Talk about a total lack of awareness of my surroundings, lack of imagination, whatever. I didn’t even realize it until half way through my hot chocolate. It was like a punch in the stomach. Unbelievable. How can you live a fulfilled life if you can’t even walk through the wide open garage door?

Insert “primal scream” here!
