Obama, Churchill and torture

Does this guy just invent stuff to fit the storyline of the day? Apparently he does the next best thing and reads Andrew Sullivan’s blog. What a way to run a country.

Antarctic “warming fast”

NOT!

Third, notes Easterbrook, the volume of ice in the Antarctic is about 30
million cubic kilometers. To melt most of this ice in ten years, 2–3 million
cubic kilometers would have had to melt—per year; and, remember, the average
temperature is -55 degrees F. This is far beyond anything even the computer
models have imagined.

Critical thinking

Tony Bennett loves Obama

Grammy-award winning musician Tony Bennett told CNSNews.com he “loves everything” Barack Obama has done in his first 100 days as president and thinks every American should “give him all-out support for anything he wants to do.”

He must at least have a 2nd home in Boulder?

Get over yourselves.

Read the comments, they’re hilarious. At least if you’re not a Boulder City Councilperson that wants a raise.

Planegate and Nationalization

What does Planegate tell us about Nationalization of the finance, auto and health care industries among others?

I agree with John Hinderaker over at Power Line.

So at this point it us unclear whether there is a story, other than the basic stupidity of the operation, or not. But let’s assume there isn’t. Assume, as I originally thought, that this fiasco illustrates the kind of arrogant and clueless decision-making that a government bureaucracy inevitably produces (not, of course, all the time). One might wonder, then, whether it is a good idea to turn our energy system, our health care, our children’s education, and our banks and auto companies over to institutions–here, the Obama White House–that can’t be relied on to make sane decisions.

Sheriff Pelle nails it

Commenting on the new Cyclists Rights bill that Governor Ritter is about to sign, Boulder County Sheriff Joe Pelle states “Bill would give cyclists ‘carte blanche’ over roads”. To which I say, “Where in the hell have you been all this time Sheriff?”.

Also, has your department written any tickets, ever, for cyclists riding on highway 36 between Lyons and Boulder for:

Riding at night, with no lights and no reflective clothing?

I truthfully don’t know the answer but I bet it’s “no”. It’s an easy thing to do, just try it one night.

I also wonder, does an automobile have to give a bicyclist riding on the side of the road, at night, with no light, and no reflective clothing, that he/she can’t see, 3′ of clearance?

Inquiring minds want to know. As if the cyclists weren’t already arrogant, or stoopid, or a combination of both already. And as I’ve said before, I treat cyclists with plenty of courtesy because even without the new law, I know who wins on the road and who loses in the court.

Hard to imagine

I wish it was hard for me to imagine that there is a large portion of the US population that is eager to put more power in the hands of government.

Wonder if the bungling of the New York City flyover will change anyone’s mind. Perhaps, but not likely in Boulder.

CBS 2 HD has discovered the feds will have plenty to question.

Federal officials knew that sending two fighter jets and Air Force One to buzz ground zero and Lady Liberty might set off nightmarish fears of a 9/11 replay, but they still ordered the photo-op kept secret from the public.

In a memo obtained by CBS 2 HD the Federal Aviation Administration’s James Johnston said the agency was aware of “the possibility of public concern regarding DOD (Department of Defense) aircraft flying at low altitudes” in an around New York City. But they demanded total secrecy from the NYPD, the Secret Service, the FBI and even the mayor’s office and threatened federal sanctions if the secret got out.

Global Warming in 1959

The USS Skate surfaced at the North Pole in 1959. Other North Pole surfacing took place in 1962, 1987 and 1993.

The Polar bears survived, imagine that!

“Good grief, what were they thinking?”

asks Instapundit.

The text below extracted from the WSJ article, lifted from Instapundit as the pertinent text at this time is only available to subscribers….

Evacuations were quickly called off, but many who thronged the banks of the Hudson River opposite Manhattan were found crying.

“For anybody who had gone through the World Trade Center, this was the most thoughtless, senseless thing they could do to somebody,” said a woman who declined to be identified. The woman said she had worked on the 13th floor of the World Trade Center’s north tower.

Air Force One flyby

If Bush did this…

My gosh, if Bush did this, Rosie O’Donnell would be laid out prostrate on Broadway right now to protest.

Full story here.

Of course…

The bigger plane was one of the customized Boeing 747s that serve as Air Force One when the President is aboard. President Obama was not on the flight.

“This was a planned, pre-approved military flight over New York to take photos,” said FAA spokesman Jim Peters. “It was pre-coordinated with everyone involved, including the city.”

Pathetic, absolutely pathetic.

Last year I stopped running after the Bolder Boulder but picked it back up again mid summer. I ran in the Panerathon 10k with a goal of under 60 minutes. I did 59′ 50″! Obviously I would like to run under 60 min this year.

Well, I just looked up the Panerathon results and the time is 1:00:03. It was a group start so I’m satisfied that my “claimed” time above is valid.

I’ll get this table straightened out sometime. Blogger is very frustrating when it comes to tables.
