The arrogance of politics….

and then there’s former President Jimmy Carter.

Carter: I’m “Probably Superior” To Other Former Presidents

Posted in you can't make this stuff up | Leave a comment

We don’t need no more CONTROL….

Who are the President and his congressional allies, to lecture us on what products to buy, or investments to make? Who are they to demand even more of our wealth to fund their next round of grand designs? Their failure is obvious and complete. I don’t believe any group of brilliant central planners can legislate prosperity… but if such a group exists, it sure as hell isn’t this bunch.

More, much more, here.

How do you spell Stoopid?

Tea Party-Backed O’Donnell Upsets GOP With Senate Primary Win in Delaware

Republican aides told Fox News Tuesday that the National Republican Senatorial Committee will not be funding O’Donnell’s general election campaign, leaving it up to Palin and the Tea Party Express to do the heavy lifting.

The NRSC issued a terse statement congratulating O’Donnell for her nomination “after a hard-fought primary campaign.”

And the answer is… NRSC

To make it clear, the National Republican Senatorial Committee is stoopid.

Times they are a changin’

Cuba to cut 500,000 from state payroll

The government reported more than 85 per cent of the Cuban labour force, or about 5m people, worked for the state at the close of 2009. There were 591,000 workers in the private sector, with most of those being farmers and 143,000 self-employed.

The massive layoff of 10 per cent of the state labour force is scheduled to begin in October and stretch through March. New licences for self-employment would be issued beginning in October , the sources said. Geographical limitations on self-employment and prohibitions on obtaining bank credits, doing business with state entities or hiring labour outside the family, would be eliminated.

85%!!?? Wow, guess we have a ways to go.

Boulder County Commissioners didn’t get the message

Apparently they haven’t been channeling Mayor Richard Daley.

Daley: Tax increase backers ‘out of their mind’

We’ll see how many voters the Boulder Church of Open Space can recruit this November.

Ya think it’s about the money?

County Sues Farmer, Cites Too Many Crops

Sounds like something Boulder County would do except they usually only enforce code if a neighbor complains.

Clarification

Now he tells us.

Fidel Castro said Friday his recent comment that communist-led Cuba’s economic model does not work was badly understood and that what he really meant was that capitalism does not work.

Glad we got that straightened out. The welcome mat is out again for Fidel in the 24 square miles surrounded by reality.

Bigger Government, Smaller Government, which way does the wind blow?

Rasmussen says (drum roll please)….  smaller government.

Good news. Perhaps this isn’t such a great year for the Boulder County Commissioners to be asking for an Open Space tax increase?

Color me stoopid

As many have noticed I’m no friend of Boulder County. I returned the recycling carts that were shoved down our throats, yet I still get to pay $10 a month for them. I don’t need them as I recycle every Sunday morning. I have to admit that paying this $10/mo for ff’ing nothing pisses me off. As a retribution/sabotage I’m less careful about what plastics can be recycled, etc as I figure I’m paying someone else to worry about that.

So I went to Ecocycle (well I guess it’s actually the Boulder County Recycling Center) this Sunday and did my recycling thing. It was windy and there were a lots of the same type of plastic bags strewn across the ecocycle lawn and across the street up against the fence bordering the power plant.

Why did I take it upon myself to pick up as many as I could in a single trip? I estimate I picked up 15 – 20 plastic bags. Why was a conservative curmudgeon doing this instead of some Boulder progressive?

Inquiring minds want to know.  I’ve already admitted I’m stoopid, what’s your excuse?

William Shatner

“It’s now William Shatner’s universe — we’re just living in it.”

After he was killed off from the “Star Trek” movies, he began doing commercials, because, he said, “every day I realized I would not be a star.”

GOP: Rudderless

Don’t get cocky, GOP

I particularly like this thought…

The GOP still appear rudderless — despite perfect conditions for a cogent message of austerity and limited government to emerge. Instead, the GOP are simply enjoying the fruits of a bad economy and the anti-incumbency fever it carries.

I feel sure they Daily Camera editorial staff doesn’t need my help in picking up on this theme. Unfortunately for them, their readership is pretty much an echo chamber of their beliefs (although commenters seem to be actively questioning the progressive mindset).

Property rights and Boulder

Boulder could force homeowners to sell their land for floodplain improvements

The city recently concluded a new map of the floodplain, which found about 700 structures are located in the danger zone.

While Swanstrom’s house isn’t one of them, the city does see an opportunity to use his land to save other people’s property. A draft plan calls for the city to purchase his property, as well as the home and property of neighbors John and Pat Militzer, clearing the land down 5 feet and installing berms to hold back water if the nearby creek spills over.

The resulting pit, located along the eastern side of the 1200 block of Marshall Road, would have the ability to retain 400 acre-feet — or about 130 million gallons — of water, according to city engineers.

But none of the property owners wants to sell, and the city would have to use eminent domain to force the homeowners out.

Well Duh.

I liked this comment suggesting the “snail darter” defense

I am sure that if the owner looked hard enough, he could find some endangered species which could be wiped out by the dam.

Special events and Highway 36

Is there ever a Summer weekend without a special event using this road somewhere between North Boulder and Lyons?

I don’t know how you register and get permission, but I’d like to register a “non-event” event simply to keep others from having theirs.  No, not every weekend, I’m not that much of a curmudgeon but say once a month

USA, not a good place to do business?

via Instapundit, via Hugh Hewitt, via comments…

Plus, from the comments: “The USA is increasingly not a good place to do business. We need a stiff broom. I worry that the GOP won’t do what it takes.” So do I. I was on Hugh Hewitt’s show last night, and he said that when he talks to Beltway GOP insiders he’s amazed at how out of touch they are. They’re not even sure about passing a ban on earmarks if they take the majority, much less more significant change. If they get the majority back, and blow it, they’ll be looking at a third-party challenge in 2012, and not just at the Presidential level.

Color me worried too.  I say bring on a 3rd party.  We need one helluva breath of fresh air.

120 Days to higher taxes

I read this and wonder who would pass these taxes. It’s an interesting combination of the nanny state, micromanagement and desperation. Enjoy!
