How much (of the “Rich’s” tax money”) is enough?

More here. It’s scary to have such a large percentage of people voting that pay no taxes. Why not tax the rich they’ve got nothing to lose. The blogprof’s suggestion…

My recommendation would be to scrap income tax altogether and go with a consumption tax only, also known as the “fair tax.” Of course, that would take all the graft out of the political arena. Politicians simply cannot do without that.

I concur.

“Luckily, this stuff is only creepy when there’s a Republican President.”

The government is creating a vast domestic spying network to collect information about Americans in the wake of the September 11, 2001 attacks and subsequent terror plots, The Washington Post reported Monday.

Peggy-O and the Grateful Dead (and offspring)

An old folk song. You can also find many other versions including those from Joan Baez, Simon and Garfunkel and Bob Dylan.

Grateful Dead: Cameron Indoor Stadium, Duke University 4/12/1978

Grateful Dead: Las Vegas 6/26/1994

Ratdog, Cleveland, February 2008. You can skip ahead to about 1:48 to miss the switching of the bass guitars.

Donna Jean Godchaux Band. Date ??. No hurry on this one.

The Dead, DC, April 2009. I don’t particularly care for the video but the recording is pretty good. I do like Phil Lesh singing this song.

Shout Out to Children’s Hospital in Denver

Sometime back I mentioned posting would be light as I was visiting my Mom in Tennessee.  Well last Saturday while I was still in TN my daughter ended up in the ER at Boulder Community.  After receiving an IV (or two?) for fluids she was transported, non emergency-wise, to Children’s Hospital where she received 3 units of blood.

She came home yesterday not too much worse for wear though she’s still recovering her strength.  No one wants to be in the Hospital and you especially don’t like to see your child sick, there was never any doubt she was in excellent hands.  Kudo’s to Childrens and thanks for the care you provided our daughter.

The wife unit was at Childrens for almost the whole duration.  A shoutout to her too.  Love ya!

Global Warming has halted…

What happened to the ‘warmest year on record’: The truth is global warming has halted

Even Phil Jones, the CRU director at the centre of last year’s ‘Climategate’ leaked email scandal, was forced to admit in a littlenoticed BBC online interview that there has been ‘no statistically significant warming’ since 1995.

Yep, inquiring minds would like to know.

The article concludes…

The question now emerging for climate scientists and policymakers alike is very simple. Just how long does a pause have to be before the thesis that the world is getting hotter because of human activity starts to collapse?

Rest assured on of the last places the thesis starts to collapse is Boulder.

“I know nothing”

Government employess and contractors instructed not to read documents leaked WikiLeaks.

I would like to note that even if a Government employee has the appropriate security clearance, they are still required to “have a need to know” before they are allowed access to secure documents.

It will be interesting to see how this will play out but this action by the OMB is pure bureacratic idiocy.

TSA: Beyond Pathetic

In the truth is stranger than fiction category

This is probably another good time to remind you all that all of us were carrying actual assault rifles, and some of us were also carrying pistols.

So we’re in line, going through one at a time. One of our Soldiers had his Gerber multi-tool. TSA confiscated it. Kind of ridiculous, but it gets better. A few minutes later, a guy empties his pockets and has a pair of nail clippers. Nail clippers. TSA informs the Soldier that they’re going to confiscate his nail clippers. The conversation went something like this:

TSA Guy: You can’t take those on the plane.

Soldier: What? I’ve had them since we left country.

TSA Guy: You’re not suppose to have them.

Soldier: Why?

TSA Guy: They can be used as a weapon.

Soldier: [touches butt stock of the rifle] But this actually is a weapon. And I’m allowed to take it on.

TSA Guy: Yeah but you can’t use it to take over the plane. You don’t have bullets.

Soldier: And I can take over the plane with nail clippers?
TSA Guy: [awkward silence]

Me: Dude, just give him your damn nail clippers so we can get the f**k out of here. I’ll buy you a new set.

Soldier: [hands nail clippers to TSA guy, makes it through security]

This might be a good time to remind everyone that approximately 233 people re-boarded that plane with assault rifles, pistols, and machine guns–but nothing that could have been used as a weapon.

We’re in the very best of hands.

Tea Party more influential than President Obama

From a recent Gallup poll

Further confirmation of the Tea Party’s influence as a long-term force to be reckoned with has come in a new USA Today/Gallup poll, which shows the Tea Party virtually neck and neck with President Obama in terms of voter opinion on who should influence government policy. The poll is yet another humiliation for a presidency already on its knees.

The conclusion certainly epitomizes the typical Boulderites opinion of the Tea Party movement.

No doubt the Left’s sneering approach towards the movement will continue, but the message the Tea Party conveys – small government, lower taxes, reduced public spending, free enterprise and individual liberty – will increasingly capture the hearts of the American people in the lead-up to 2012, and will pose a massive threat to President Obama’s re-election prospects.

Talk about 24 square miles surrounded by reality.
