“Damn” was her audible response
I recently heard a surprising story: A female CEO was briefed on a stellar candidate for a top job at her company. “Sounds ideal,” she said to the group in the room. “Male or female?” Male was the answer. “Damn” was her audible response. The guy wasn’t even interviewed. Why Are Men SilentSearch BIS

Border control
This is the United States?
Of course, from our Government…
“The border is more secure than it has ever been,” said U.S. Customs and Border Protection Commissioner Alan Bersin. “We have created the conditions to make this border economically competitive and prosperous.”
We should be ashamed. President’s Obama and Bush should both be ashamed.

Glenn Beck and plagiarism
The Daily Caller reports on Glenn Beck not providing proper credit for mmaterial used on both his website and his show. For example…
A remarkably large number of conservative writers say they feel robbed. During the March 18 airing of his television program, for example, Beck ran a portion of video created by a Chicago-based blogger who calls himself Rebel Pundit. The blogger, who does not publicly reveal his name, says he was initially pleased to see Beck running his video, which featured left-wing protesters demanding amnesty for illegal immigrants. He was soon shocked, however, to see that Beck’s staff had obscured the watermark logo of his website, RebelPundit.com, from the tape.
“I put my website name on there for a reason – to bring people from the movement to my website so they can see the other stuff that I’ve done,” the man behind Rebel Pundit told TheDC. “You’ve got pretty much the biggest guy in the movement take your stuff and actually have his editors spend the time to scrub my name off of it.”
Ironically, while Beck’s staff had gone to the trouble of removing any trace of the phrase “rebelpundit.com” from the video, they apparently missed an obvious obscenity in the background of the frame. Clearly visible on a sign held by one of the protestors was the demand, “Open the fucking border.” When it appeared on his show, Beck said, “Oh, don’t show that please.”
One would assume ego is involved when something like this takes places? Glenn, his editors and producers have a lot to answer for.
I can handle 10 – 20 minutes of his radio or TV show, but he inevitably gets to the point where he’s having this “private one on one” conversation with his audience. I have no patience for that.

Algae may be the fuel of the future
What exactly is the fuel?
Algal fuels are made by extracting and refining the lipids within algae. Algae are attractive biofuel feedstock because it grows quickly and thrives in everything from seawater to irrigation runoff to sewage.
How much water is required:
Growing all that algae would require land roughly the size of South Carolina and 350 gallons of water for each gallon of algal oil. All told, that comes to about 25 percent of the water we currently use for crop irrigation. (The researchers say that’s on par with ethanol.)
That seems like a lot. Perhaps some genetic breading of algae? At least in general people (or livestock) don’t eat algae so I find that a more attractive alternative than corn.

Terry Gordon Johnson
I saw one of Terry Johnson’s children at the bookstore tonight. I spent about 20 minutes in conversation.
It was hard to manage my emotions. How proud I’m sure he was and how proud he should be today and how proud I’m sure his wife is today of all their children.
I’ll be removing the picture of Terry and Ada from the right column of this blog in the near future. There’s no doubt that he would, in general, not agree with the politics of this blog. Although all I wish to do is honor him, I’m sure that he would not necessarily want to be connected with the political viewpoints expressed here.
All that said, I want to thank Terry Johnson for my first “real” job.

Florida: Oh my…
At least if you’re an Obama supporter.
But the really bad news belongs to Obama. He can win without Florida in a general election, but it won’t be easy, especially if he loses Ohio and Wisconsin, which at least seem possible. An approval rating of 42% or 43% with majority disapprovals are not numbers that will win the state, and he’s running out of time to turn those around.

Where’s my waiver?
Despite union workers only making up 11.9% of the workforce, 45.55% of waiver beneficiaries are unionized!

The Tea Party riders
Here they are.
Trying to constrain the power of government? I’m all for that. Is it worth the pushback, color me uncertain. There might be a better way to spend political capital.
Juan Willaims comments.
Tea Party demands for so-called ‘riders’ in the budget bill that deal with controversial social issues like abortion are also detracting from any claim that Tea Party members of Congress are just trying to help the economy by cutting federal spending. What do ‘riders’ to ban funding for Planned Parenthood, global warming, health care and money to close a nuclear waste facility in Nevada – Senate Majority Leader Reid’s home state – have to do with creating jobs or a stronger economy?
Polls show a sharp decline in the public’s opinion of the Tea Party since last fall. Just last week when the Tea Party faithful held a rally on Capitol Hill to insist that the GOP leadership not compromise on a budget deal the turn-out, to be polite, was light to non-existent.
Food for thought.

Shut it Down!
“If the Smithsonian, the Parks Service and the Cherry Blossom Festival get delayed or canceled, it’s the wakeup call that we really needed. The fools inside the Beltway are borrowing $100 billion month in and month out, and there’s nobody left in the world buying except the central banks—the Fed and the people’s printing press of China. There’s no way that’s sustainable or viable. It’s simply building up pressure in the monetary system that’s going to blow sky-high.”
While cheering the Tea Party Republicans’ demand of $60 billion in cuts, Stockman lamented their insistence on attaching polarizing policy riders forbidding funding for Planned Parenthood and other right-wing pariahs. “I don’t agree with that. It’s unfortunate that these social issues get caught up in what essentially is the core fiscal question.”
(emphasis added)
I couldn’t agree more. And the same apparently goes for the precious metals markets. Silver over $40 per ounce and Gold at $1466…

Not likely to happen in Boulder
I can’t believe my best friend is a Republican
It’s a “numbers” thing.
She is more well-read and educated in her politics than most of the liberals I know. Too many liberals I know are lazy, they have a belief system that consists of making fun of Glenn Beck and watching “The Daily Show.” Shouldn’t their beliefs be challenged, too?
