“Damn” was her audible response
I recently heard a surprising story: A female CEO was briefed on a stellar candidate for a top job at her company. “Sounds ideal,” she said to the group in the room. “Male or female?” Male was the answer. “Damn” was her audible response. The guy wasn’t even interviewed. Why Are Men SilentSearch BIS

Good grief. Leadership

And when interests rates rise, as they inevitably will, the interest on the National Debt will increase substantially.

“….I can attest to the sea change in attitudes towards Barack Obama here.”
A response to an Instapundit post about government heading in the wrong direction. Here is a highlight regarding discussing food prices in the shopping line….
I thought maybe this was just a coincidence, so I’ve started the same conversation in store lines twice more in the past week and it’s exactly the same: people are frightened and EVERYONE wants to talk about it out loud.
The interesting thing to me is that everyone used to be very reluctant to speak out in public against Obama. You were always afraid some leftie whackjob would hear you and tear into you. You know what I mean.
But now the gloves are off, people are freaking out and Obama can raise FIVE billion dollars for his campaign and organize until the cows come home and call everyone in the country a racist until he turns blue but it’s not going to convince anyone that they’re not paying an arm and a leg for half a cart worth of food.
Print money, hate business = this is what you get.

21% Say U.S. Heading in Right Direction, A New Low
An interesting disconnect between the political class and the mainstream voters.
Sixty-one percent (61%) of Political Class voters still believe the country is heading in the right direction. Eighty-two percent (82%) of Mainstream voters disagree.

Amazing. There must be more to this story. Well… it’s only the House. Next stop the Massachusetts Senate.

Scorched Earth Politics: A new definition
Another example of leadership from the President.
UPDATE: Reader Steve Elmers writes: “Obama has given new meaning to ‘Scorched Earth Politics!’ I believed for a long time that POTUS Obama was just a bad president; I have now come to believe he is a bad person. This same scenario has played out over and over again. Remember the Nashville floods last year?”
Some time last week I heard on the news in the background that the State of Texas had a fire in every county but two.
The First Adult — AWOL
NFK. Robert Samuelson calls at the President for his lack of leadership.
The president keeps promoting an “adult conversation” about the budget, but that can’t happen if the First Adult doesn’t play his part. Obama is eager to be all things to all people. He’s against the debt and its adverse consequences, but he’s for preserving Social Security and Medicare without major changes. He’s for “tough cuts,” but he’s against saying what they are and defending them. He pronounces ambitious goals without saying how they’d be reached. Mainly, he’s for scoring political points against Republicans.
A leader Obama is not.
Lead on the deficit? Nope.
A leader on the budget? Nope.
Lead on Healthcare reform? At best from a large distance and from “on high”.
Would a leader call people out the way Obama has called out the Supreme Court and Paul Ryan? Absolutely not.
White House: No Easter greetings
I’m sure this is a checkmark in the ‘plus box’ for Boulder progressives but when you compound the ignorance and tone deafness of this White House is simply boggles the mind.
Here’s some examples of religious events/holidays the White House didn’t forget…
By comparison, the White House has released statements recognizing the observance of major Muslim holidays and released statements in 2010 on Ramadan, Eid-ul-Fitr, Hajj, and Eid-ul-Adha.
The White House . . . did release an eight-paragraph statement heralding Earth Day. Likewise, the president’s weekend address mentioned neither Good Friday or Easter.
Ah, Earth Day, the true progressive religion.
h/t to Uncle Bob.
Success as a Manager
Managers, Can You Hear Me Now?: Hard-Hitting Lessons on How to Get Real Results
From the reviews:
As a business book junkie, I have never seen the reasons why managers struggle articulated so succinctly.
Reason Number 1: They Fail to Build Trust and Integrity
Reason Number 2: They Have the Wrong Focus
Reason Number 3: They Don’t Model or Build Accountability
Reason Number 4: They Fail to Consistently Reinforce What’s Important
Reason Number 5: They Over rely on Consensus
Reason Number 6: They Focus on Being Popular
Reason Number 7: They Get Caught Up in Their Self-Importance
Reason Number 8: They Put Their Heads in the Sand
Reason Number 9: They Fix Problems, Not Causes
No, I haven’t read the book but the items in the list above sure make sense to me.

Boulder can’t get enough…
speeding tickets or money. I vote for the latter. Safety, I’m convinced they don’t give a damn.
Food giveaway permit
Sounds like something that would happen in Boulder.
As Instapundit says…
First, demand free food. Then, demand that the donor pay to get a city permit. Then, “dismay” when he’s unhappy. Ungrateful serfs!

“Just say No” to the the Michigan State police
Glenn Reynolds expounds on the invasion of privacy potential of the Michigan State police smartphone search program.
The overiding lesson, do NOT consent to search:
Without an arrest, search requires probable cause—the officer must have some reasonable basis for believing that a crime has been committed, and that a particular search will turn up evidence relevant to that crime. It’s hard to see how cellphone data could be relevant to a traffic stop. Instead, searching cellphones looks more like a fishing expedition: Having gotten access to you with a traffic stop, officers are just looking around to see what they find. That’s explicitly forbidden by the Constitution, and with good reason. Letting government officials snoop on anyone they choose, for no particular reason, is a bad idea.
If you consent to a search, however, all bets are off. It’s hard to see why anyone would do so: If you’re a criminal, you’ve got something to hide; and if you’re not a criminal, why would you want to let the police paw through your email? And remember that when you consent to have your smartphone searched, you’re also giving up data on all your contacts, who haven’t consented. The legal ramifications to that have yet to be worked out.

‘All that’s missing are the words “Five Year Plan” ‘
In what may be the strongest signal yet of the new pro-labor orientation of the National Labor Relations Board under President Obama, the agency filed a complaint Wednesday seeking to force Boeing to bring an airplane production line back to its unionized facilities in Washington State instead of moving the work to a nonunion plant in South Carolina.
Crazy, absolutely crazy. Perhaps Boeing should just not make the planes. That’s sort of a “Going Galt” thing isn’t it?

Truly, Isn’t there something more important to worry about?
Regulations for childhood games.
Dave Mullany, president of Wiffle Ball, Inc., based in Shelton, Conn., told FoxNews.com that he was shocked to hear that lawmakers in Albany recently identified the activity as “poses a significant risk of injury” along with other iconic childhood pastimes, like dodgeball.
“It’s crazy,” Mullany said on Tuesday. “Amid all this talk of us becoming a nation of overweight kids, we really need to promote activity and kids having fun. Should these kids go to summer camp and sit quietly with their hands folded? It’s a little disconcerting to see fun being legislated.”
The words I want to use don’t belong on this blog. If the legislatures in Albany, NY have time to work on bullcrap legislation like this, they really need to close down shop and go home.
Liberals, exactly how far do you want to allow government into our lives?
4/19 @ 18:05p: I heard on the news sometime this afteroon that the legislatures did decide they had better things to do.
Neil Cavuto would like this guy…
Robert Samuelson takes on both parties when it comes the deficit.
It boils down to this…
Our budget problem is conceptually simple. Government’s spending commitments, driven by more retirees and uncontrolled health costs, vastly exceed the existing tax base. There is an argument about how fast changes should be made to protect the economic recovery. There should be no argument over the need for changes to prevent a debt crisis: Too many Treasury bonds frighten investors and drive up interest rates.
Boulderites will be glad to know Samuelson doesn’t have much good to say about the Ryan budget. Unfortunately for them, he skewers the Democrats as well.
