They can come frack on my property any day – Broomfield invites local governments to join effort for stronger state, local oil and gas regulations – Longmont Times-Call

The draft letter says local officials “do not believe extraction of this resource is appropriate in urban areas. Regardless of whether you support or oppose oil and gas development there is a large and growing consensus that this intensive industrial activity does not belong in residential neighborhoods, near schools or hospitals, or in close proximity to drinking water supplies.”

Both hands clapping for Matthew Vitale – Student whose MAGA hat stolen presses charges; thief’s peers demand school protect her, pay her rent – The College Fix

But the “#Snatch a hat” video posted to Macias’ Facebook page, which films her grabbing his hat off his head, shows she took it off his person. That rises to the level of a felony theft charge, he said he was told by campus police.

And I agree with Mr. Vitale’s free speech statement 100%…

“Free speech is under attack on campus,” added Vitale, a leader within the school’s College Republicans. “As cliche as it sounds, the facts of our laws and our Constitution … don’t care about what you feel. For millennials everywhere who believe their feelings give them the right to step on the rights of others — you are sadly misguided. That is not the real world.”

To the snowflakes on campus, you do not have a right NOT to be offended. Get over yourselves.

You think they are not snowflakes? This is what the “Statement of Solidarity with Edith Macias” is calling for…

The “Statement of Solidarity with Edith Macias” circulating within the campus community states in part that UC administration should “pay for alternate housing accommodations for Macias and their family while simultaneously covering their current housing costs in order to keep them safe from threats of harm.”

The demand cites Vitale’s viral video, saying Macias has been doxxed and threatened as a result. It also calls for administrators to “grant Macias amnesty and protection from any student or legal charges.”

It also seeks a statement against “white supremacist violence” and one in support of sanctuary campuses from campus leaders.

After Vitale’s video went viral, drawing the nation’s attention to the incident at the public university in Southern California, campus leaders sent an email that weighed in on the issue without mentioning it specifically.

“Coequal to our dedication to mutual respect is our commitment to free speech and the free exchange of ideas,” the message stated. “A university requires an environment where students and scholars can freely express ideas and pursue knowledge, while also promoting respectful dialogue among individuals or groups with opposing viewpoints.”

Vitale, 20, an economics major set to graduate next year, said he was a little disappointed with the statement.

“UCR affirms its dedication to free speech, but [adds] free speech has to come under our shared values of mutual respect, which is not freedom of speech,” Vitale said. “The whole point of freedom of speech is to ensure the right to say things reprehensible or mean.”

“I don’t think the MAGA hat is any of those things,” he said. “… But if we don’t protect controversial speech, that is the moment when we lose our liberty.”

Perhaps Edith Macias should have kept her hands to herself. Practice a little self control. Realize that she can be offended and be a grown up about it, not a spoiled self indulgent brat. Get over yourself, take an adult pill, put on your big boy (whoops big girl pants) and proceed with growing up.

Oh, and this is exactly how you get more Trump.

Have at it – Green Bay Packers To Fans: Join Us In #TakeAKnee Tonight | Daily Wire

On Tuesday, the Green Bay Packers players released a statement asking their fans to join them in their #TakeaKnee protest Thursday night at Lambeau Field before their game against the Chicago Bears.

I don’t need popcorn for the game, but perhaps for the ratings reports.

Source: Hollow NFL protests ignore inconvenient truth | Power Line

While poorly educated athletes, egged on by leftist commentators, indulge in Black Lives Matter based protests against their country, evidence pours in that black-on-black crime is the real threat to black lives and that attacks on policing are causing an increase in such crime. Heather Mac Donald has the details.

Mr. Mirengoff concludes…

NFL players have the right to ignore, or be ignorant of, the facts, and I don’t believe they should be punished for taking a knee or otherwise disrespecting America when the National Anthem is played. But it is fair to observe that, in addition to disrespecting the country that has been so good to them, they are boosting the Ferguson effect and thus likely adding to the toll on thousands of law-abiding people in the inner cities who need more police protection.

I’m not sure I totally agree with Mirengoff’s conclusion regarding punishment. It does appear they are violating NFL rules. That aside, I’m OK with the free market dishing out the punishment. I spent at most an hour watching NFL football over the weekend and Monday night. Probably less than 30 minutes. I watched a few plays in the Bronco’s game and then a little of the Monday night game.

I don’t plan to watch anymore this weekend.

Winning strategy – Tennessee Titan on winning back fans angry over protests: ‘Don’t come to the game’ – twitchy.com

“And the fans that don’t want to come to the game? I mean, OK. Bye. I mean, if you feel that’s something, we’re disrespecting you, don’t come to the game. You don’t have to. No one’s telling you to come to the game. It’s your freedom of choice to do that.”

This would be for 2013 but it’s a good time to refresh – Lie of the Year: ‘If you like your health care plan, you can keep it’ | PolitiFact

“If you like your health care plan, you can keep it,” President Barack Obama said — many times — of his landmark new law.

But the promise was impossible to keep.

So this fall, as cancellation letters were going out to approximately 4 million Americans, the public realized Obama’s breezy assurances were wrong.

If the politicians had to use this POS health insurance and POS tax credit determination, then this would be fixed pronto. Here it for yourself…

Stephen Curry wants to have it both ways | Power Line

Paul Mirengoff at Powerline concludes…

Meanwhile, I can only laugh at this headline from the Washington Post: “Trump turns sports into a political battleground with comments on NFL and Stephen Curry.” Even if one thinks, as I do, that Trump should abstain from talk that mixes politics with sports, it couldn’t be more obvious that athletes like Colin Kaepernick and Stephen Curry are the ones who turned sports into a political battleground. (emphasis added)

I respect their right to do so. But please, let’s not pretend that Trump is responsible for the politicization of sports. That’s the work of deep political thinkers like Kaepernick, Curry, etc., egged on by ESPN and left-wing sports commentators.

Which is why NFL football has started to leave a bitter taste in my mouth. It will be interesting to see how game attendance and viewership numbers change throughout the season.

Slush funds with no adult supervision – The Secret Slush Funds of Asset Forfeiture – Hit & Run : Reason.com

Two investigations published this week reveal how police and prosecutors spend asset forfeiture funds outside the public eye.

Read it and enjoy the corruption. The conclusion….

Corruption is pervasive in all other arenas of public life—politics, media, education, sports— yet the defenders of asset forfeiture ask us to believe that the criminal justice system is staffed by angels. When investigations manage to overcome the lax reporting requirements that protect these agencies, it only strengthens the case for making police and prosecutors more accountable for how they use money seized from citizens.

Yea, right.

YES, NEXT QUESTION – Has asset forfeiture gone too far? Truck seizure case sparks outrage, a call for change | Fox News

Critics argue that civil asset forfeiture program’s abuses outweigh its benefits.

What had Gerardo Serano done to lose his truck?

“You need a warrant for that,” he says he told them. They searched his truck and found five bullets in a magazine clip that Serano, a Kentucky concealed carry permit holder, forgot to remove before leaving his home.

“We got you,” he says border agents told him. He was detained, but never arrested, nor charged, nor tried, nor convicted. However, agents did seize his prized new truck. Two years since its seizure, they have yet to give it back.

Serano is still making monthly payments of $673 on the truck as well as paying for its insurance and Kentucky license fees.

His attorneys at the Institute for Justice say Customs and Border Patrol has told them the truck was subject to the government’s Civil Asset Forfeiture program because it was used to “transport munitions of war.” (emphasis added)

As I said at the start, YES, NEXT QUESTION. May this case reach the US Supreme court and we can bring an end to this government thuggery.

Government incompetence on display, in full public view – Colorado Building Up Millions In Unpaid Medicaid Claims « CBS Denver This has been going on for 5 or 6 months.

Colorado doctors and hospitals are claiming they’re owed hundreds of thousands, if not millions of dollars, in unpaid Medicaid claims.

This is from implementation of the State’s new Medicaid payment system.

Colorado doctors, after months of trying to work through the issues, say they’re fed up with the site.

First it was individual doctors speaking out, but now it’s hospital CEO’s like Kevin Stansbury of Hugo’s Lincoln Community Hospital who are saying they’re stretched dangerously thin.

“We are a small place. We do not generate a lot of revenue, so every dollar we generate is important to us. We currently have about $1.3 million wrapped up in unpaid claims with Medicaid,” Stansbury said.

Oh and get this…

The state recognizes there have been issues(emphasis added)

Wow, do these incompetent bureaucrats ‘ have a degree in rocket science? The state has been “recognizing” there have been issues for months. Wow, so what effing good does that do anyone? Recognizing doesn’t pay the bills.

Oh, now they talk about complexity….

“I want to start by fully acknowledging that this transition has been incredibly complex, not only for the state but for our providers and our other stakeholders,” Birch said.

With such a complex system, the department’s Health Information Director, Chris Underwood, says they expected there would be some growing pains.

“We also did some major policy changes when we implemented the system, and so a lot of providers believe the system is broken when the reality is we’ve changed our policy,” Underwood said.

So, the wizards, Sue Birch and Chris Underwood decided the best path forward was to implement a complex system, hope and pray and let the chips fall where they may. Inquiring minds want to know if they had ever heard about a phased approach?

And when is this mess going to be fixed?

At a legislative hearing, Underwood set a goal of having things operating as normal by January.

LOL!

This is pathetic. Especially for a State that expanded Medicaid and aggressively tries to enroll people in the system, yet can’t pay the medical providers that service these patients.

Heads would roll in a private corporation. Odds are high, all these incompetent bureaucrats will have a job come January.
