Hey, Boulder County Commissioners had a meeting in Gunbarrel

The Daily Camera announced it, but using their suck ass Yahoo search engine I can’t find that they reported on it.

To report on it, you need to get the Left Hand Courier.

You can read their report on the meeting here. Apparently the meeting was fairly controversial in regards to Prarie Dogs and road paving.

Here are a couple of interesting excerpts…

The meeting, which lasted over two hours, was fraught with high emotions. Commissioner Cindy Domenico refused to leave her seat to address the crowd after they shouted at her, and Commissioner Ben Pearlman repeatedly asked the audience to not yell.

The attendees apparently got under Commmissar Pearlman’s skin regarding not representing their views to the City, leading to this statement from Pearlman…

His frustration with the situation showed when he said that if the attendees didn’t feel as if their opinion was being represented by the commissioners, they should vote to be annexed into the City of Boulder. That statement was met by a chorus of “no’s”.

Interestingly, the printed version of this article states…

“… was met by a chorus of “Hell no” from the audience”

For the uninformed, Commissar Pearlman’s quip about annexation refers to Gunbarrel twice voting down annexation to the City of Boulder.

Regarding road repair funds, which the County has no money for…

The meeting addressed other issues. Several attendees asked about subdivision road funds, which, according to the commissioners, are not adequately funded through present taxation.

“Where is the money?” asked a resident who identified herself as having lived in Gunbarrel for over 40 years. Pearlman explained that a road repair tax county residents approved 18 years ago expired two to three years ago, leaving the coffers nearly bare. He and the other commissioners would like to ask all county subdivisions to vote for a new road repair tax to fund road reconstruction.

One has to wonder why the Boulder Daily Camera couldn’t report on this meeting. It wouldn’t take a genius to determine this meeting could be “interesting”. Giving the Camera some credit, this video recently was posted on their web site…

Also, the Colorado Division of Wildlife told the City to “back down“.

The Colorado Division of Parks and Wildlife has denied an application from the city of Boulder to move up to 300 prairie dogs from Foothills Community Park to an open space site in Gunbarrel, effectively putting an end to a five-year battle over the rodents.

But the overall war is far from over, with city officials saying they’ll try to find a new home for the troublesome critters and opposed Gunbarrel residents promising to share their experience with other neighborhoods.

Unbelievable.

Backtracking on light bulbs

“It was never my goal for Washington to decide what type of light bulbs Americans should use,” Upton said in a statement to The Hill. “The public response on this issue is a clear signal that markets – not governments – should be driving technological advancements. I will join my colleagues to vote yes on a bill to protect consumer choice and guard against federal overreach.”

Whatever.

Budget deal timeline: “No Way”

Really?

“There’s the need to write it, the need to read it, the need to understand it, the need to score it, the need for it to be `real,’ the need for it to be processed and supported by each side’s base, the need to assemble the necessary votes,” said GOP lobbyist Eric Ueland, a former longtime Senate aide.

You’re kidding me right? I thought the goal was to pass the bill so you could see what’s in it.

Follow Your Dreams

Cancelled?

Down with the naysayers.

Now, in response to what naysayers, gatekeepers, or anyone might say to keep you from dreaming, I want to share 19 reasons why you should ignore everyone and follow your dreams:

1.The only “yes” you need to follow your dreams is yours.
2.You’ll regret it later in life, and if you’re delaying it, you’ll question yourself why didn’t you do it sooner.
3.Not following your dreams makes you feel unaccomplished. Eventually, this will stop you from dreaming altogether.

The Deficit is Worse than we Think

says Lawrence Lindsey in todays Wall Street Journal.

In a nutshell the issues are:

1. Normalization of interest rates increasing the cost of borrowing
2. Over optimistic projections of growth
3. Obamacare: Employers dumping their health plans and sending their employees to the public system. That’s an extra $74 billion in 2014.

After read his column, the picture below is looking more and more realistic.

Is the US in denial over its $14tn debt?

LOL. You have to ask?

“You have promises implicit in the structure of welfare states and aging populations that mean there is an unacknowledged debt that will have to be paid for by future taxpayers, and that could double the published figures.”

Richard Haass of the Council on Foreign Relations acknowledges that this structural commitment to future debt is not unique to the United States. All advanced democracies have more or less the same problem, he says, “but in the case of the States the figures are absolutely enormous”.

Greece is not alone

Robert Samuelson discusses the economic quagmire of the developed world.

It may be that gobs of stimulus can’t rescue the global economy but that gobs of austerity might sink it. Our predicament is that it’s not just a few countries that face austerity but most advanced nations. We’ve arrived at a historical reckoning of the post-World War II welfare state, burdened with aging populations and huge debts. Germany’s gross public debt is 87 percent of its economy (gross domestic product); Japan’s, 213 percent; Britain’s, 89 percent; and the United States’, 101 percent, reports the BIS. (Its debt definition results in higher numbers than the standard U.S. measure.) Greece is not alone.

Circumventing labor laws…

I spoke with a client yesterday afternoon, he works in asbestos removal. I suspect he works through an employment agency or I don’t know how this situation could occur.

The work is intense and he’s on call a large part of the time. It turns out he works for two companies. Once he reaches 40 hours, he changes employers to avoid the overtime.

Doesn’t seem legal?

I’m waiting…

for the Daily Camera editorial staff to attack this nonsense

“We are acting lawfully,” said Harold Koh, the State Department’s top legal adviser. You see, since we’re hitting Tripoli with offshore missiles and unmanned drones, and the Libyans can’t hit back, we’re not engaged in “the kind of ‘hostilities’ envisioned by the War Powers Resolution.”

If this had happened in a Republican administration…. oh, why waste the space.
