“49% of Americans believe the federal government has become so large and powerful that it poses an immediate threat to the rights and freedoms of ordinary citizens….

In 2003, less than a third (30%) believed this.” Somehow I doubt this is an issue the typical Boulderite worries about..

“I’d say that the President “grossly misstated” the true nature of these incidents, but that would be inaccurate.”

Stereotyping. If liberals/progressives were anywhere near as open minded as they delusionally believe stories like this wouldn’t get any traction. Yea, I know, I’m stereotyping!

“After we got the loan guarantee, they were just spending money left and right.”

One word: Solyndra. What a way to run a company.

Which brings us to the $16 muffin, the tip of the iceberg.

The lesson of government waste, whether on $16 muffins or $535 million loan guarantees to solar power companies or $48 billion in “improper” Medicare payments, is one worth relearning every day.

Managers whose budgets do not depend on customer satisfaction and who do not face competitive pressure in the marketplace, will not, on balance, spend their money wisely. Vendors selling to those managers know that price matters much less than it does to, say, Wal-Mart. And anywhere there is political urgency and official involvement high up the command chain, conditions will begin resembling a gold rush.

(emphassis added – Ed) … and yes the article goes on to state that spending is a bi-partisan problem. No argument here. More links to government spending corruption and incompetence.

TELL ME ONE MORE TIME WHY YOU WANT THE GOVERNMENT RUNNING HEALTHCARE?

Property rights, the foundation of the market system, got quite a bit weaker.

Property Rights
-Component 2A (Judicial Independence) fell from 8.02 to 6.62.
-Component 2B (Impartial Courst) fell from 9.02 to 5.70.
-Component 2C (Property Rights) fell from 9.10 to 6.83.

More here.

Somehow I doubt that’s a concern to either the Boulder County Commissioners or the Boulder City Council. Oh and let’s not leave out good old Judge James Klein, he certainly did his share to erode property rights in the local area. Both hands clapping (> for stoopid Judge Klein.

Economics: Marginal Cost pricing

But everyone cannot be the marginal cost consumer. Someone has to cover things like development costs.

Netflix, prescription drugs, Medicare. Take your pick. h/t to Instapundit.

Extravagant government spending

$16 muffins and coffee at a $1/ounce. The government mindset on spending boggles the mind. And we want the government running healthcare. Well “we” don’t but the liberal’s and progressive do.

Climate change exageration

What a surprise. This time at the Times Atlas of the World. Hence the newly coined term, Atlasgate.

Accompanying publicity material declared the change reflected ‘concrete evidence’ that 15 per cent of the ice sheet around the island – an area the size of the United Kingdom – had melted since 1999.
But last night the atlas’s publishers admitted that the ‘ice-free’ areas could in fact still be covered by sheets of more than a quarter of a mile thick. It came after a group of leading polar scientists from Cambridge University wrote to them saying their changes were ‘incorrect and misleading’ and that the true rate of melting has been far slower.

Quick, someone tell Al Gore.

Peak Oil, where is it?

Daniel Yergin discusses the peak oil that hasn’t yet arrived.

Just in the years 2007 to 2009, for every barrel of oil produced in the world, 1.6 barrels of new reserves were added. And other developments – from more efficient cars and advances in batteries, to shale gas and wind pwoer – have provided reasons for greater confidence in our energy resilency. Yet the fear of peak oil maintains its powerful grip.

Especially in Boulder.

Kelo: “I’m Sorry”

Says Connecticut Supreme Court Justice Richard N. Palmer.

Then Justice Palmer turned to Susette, took her hand and offered a heartfelt apology. Tears trickled down her red cheeks. It was the first time in the 12-year saga that anyone had uttered the words “I’m sorry.”

Photo Radar: Government ATM machine

Bring the system to a screeching halt… MAKE THEM SERVE YOU (and be scarce).

Pirosko, who has fought photo- radar shenanigans since the beginning and once got a judge to suspend Denver’s system until it was reformed, told me, “The public is sick of cities using them as an ATM machine. I’m telling people to follow the law. Make them serve you personally.” And if you do, don’t answer the door to strangers for awhile. In the tickets it mails to motorists, Denver does say they won’t be reported to the state. But the only hint of the personal service mandate is the warning that the assessment “may be served to you” if you don’t pay by a particular date. When Fox 31’s Heidi Hemmat did a report on photo radar in April, Denver police brushed off her questions about personal service — as well they might, since ignorance is the best assurance of docile payment. Make no mistake: Docile payment is the right call if you were speeding recklessly. If not, though, it seems you have an option.

Not too smart. Perhaps they should try to inductively “steal” it but for that to work I think you need to be near the large transmission lines. The Peter Principle at work.

Solyndra: Do Boulderites know about this scandal?

According to Newsbusters the talking heads at MSNBC have avoided mention of the Solyndra scandal. What’s $500 million down the drain plus preferential treatment for past investors? As of September 16th…

Despite the announcement of the Solyndra bankruptcy on August 31, “Hardball,” “PoliticsNation,” “The Last Word,” “The Rachel Maddow Show,” and “The Ed Show” have not done one single report on the subject.

Just too many more important issues of the day to report on Solyndra, which would of course reflect poorly on the President and his administration.
