Political news Boulderites can use…

Obama’s Hope Fades in Virginia

Polls close in Virginia at 7 p.m. — one of the first battlegrounds to report on Election Night — and if the GOP can win the state by enough of a margin that the networks call it early for Romney, that encouraging news may have a ripple effect westward in Colorado, New Mexico, Iowa and Nevada.

I have my fingers crossed for that “ripple effect” thingy.

“Another reason to shop in Longmont, Louisville and Lafayette. “…

(title from the comments) Boulder’s proposed grocery bag fee cut in half to 10 cents

It’s mind boggling to me tnat not a single council memeber is against the tax (oops, of course I mean “fee”). All of which leads me to:

  • The title of this blog: Boulder is a Stoopid Place

and the subheading

  • “So why do intelligent people consistently make such a hash of things? Because they are smart enough to talk themselves into anything. Ordinary mortals don’t engage in fancy mental gymnastics to reach conclusions that defy common sense. But intellectuals are particularly prone to this.”

Obviously, there are no “ordinary mortals” on Boulder City Council.

“Right now, I spend more than 40 cents of every dollar the company takes in on complying with regulations. You heard that right: more than forty cents.”

Doesn’t include taxes.

If you want the government to take care of you, that’s what you’ll get.

Boulder Daily Camera: News you can use

NYT scolded by public editor for keeping Libya hearing coverage off front page

Amid concerns that some in the mainstream media are downplaying the Libya terror attack, The New York Times’ public editor scolded The Grey Lady this week for burying its coverage of the first congressional hearing on the deadly assault.

Columbus Dispatch on the Obama administrations handling of Benghazi

Preventable Tragedy: Obama administration can’t spin its way out of blame for Benghazi

His further comment at Wednesday’s hearing is damning: “The takeaway from that, for me and my staff: It was abundantly clear we were not going to get resources until the aftermath of an incident. And the question that we would ask is, again, ‘How thin does the ice have to get before someone falls through?’ ”

That ice broke at 9:40 p.m. on Sept. 11, when a cadre of men stormed the consulate compound. They fired guns, threw grenades and set buildings on fire.

What followed in the ensuing weeks is an astounding display either of incompetence or dishonesty, as Obama administration officials gave constantly shifting accounts of what happened.

The editorial concludes:

The murder of Stevens and his colleagues raises serious questions about the administration’s priorities and competence.

To which Glenn Reynolds chimes in: “Indeed it does. Or maybe it just answers them.”

Note to the editorial staff of the Boulder Daily Camera, this would be a good time to carry some more of Obama’s water.

“The looming expiration of the production-tax credit is leading to a boom in 2012 wind installations,” he said. “We forecast that the boom in 2012 will be followed by a bust in 2013, with wind installations dropping 80 to 90 percent.”
