Glenn Reynolds commenting on commenting on this video: LA’s New Crack Epidemic: Sidewalks

Have you noticed that the more time and energy cities put into things like banning big sodas or plastic grocery bags, the worse jobs they do at things that used to be considered basic functions of government?

Indeed. So Boulder!

Really? Are they that stupid? Colorado Democrats want gun manufacturers held liable for crimes committed with their guns

The owners and makers of assault-style weapons could soon be held legally liable  in Colorado for crimes committed with their guns, if sponsors of a new  gun-control package have their way.

Well, it’s just assault style weapons, guess that makes it ok (NOT).

Barry, you’re doing a heck of a job

John Hinderaker: On Their Own

We’re talking the TOTAL lack of communication that Joint Chiefs Chairman Dempsey and Secretary of Defense Panetta received from President Obama (too bad I can’t say “then President Obama”) and then Secretary of State Hillary Clinton.

The lights are on, the mice are running for the exits, except those that are too stoopid to run. Can the MSM/legacy media provide cover? I’m breathlessly waiting to see.

Sure glad I didn’t vote for Barry.

Wow, what a surprise: Iran’s supreme leader shuts down possibility of direct nuclear talks with US

What were our leaders thinking? Perhaps a Boulder progressive can enlighten me.

DHS out of control:

An approximation of how many rounds of ammunition the DHS has now secured over the last 10 months stands at around 1.625 billion.

To put that in perspective, during the height of active battle operations in Iraq, US soldiers used 5.5 million rounds of ammunition a month. Extrapolating the figures, the DHS has purchased enough bullets over the last 10 months to wage a full scale war for almost 30 years.

Let me remind you that DHS is the Department of HOMELAND Security. Can you connect the dots? Do you trust them? Boulderites, no need to answer.

Harry Reid talking out of both sides of his mouth.

According to FactCheck.org Reid inflated the $2.6 trillion figure for the show.  The senator referred to the same figure as being $100 billion less, three days  before on the Senate Floor.

Wow, what a surprise.

Solar Pushback: Cutbacks in subsidies indicate future of solar may be dimming

Nuggets include:

  • “The fundamental problem is it’s not economically sustainable,” said Todd Myers  of the Washington Policy Center, a think tank in Washington state.
  • One major issue is that homeowners have been taking advantage of subsidies and  the dropping price of solar panels thanks to cheap imports from China. But as  those customers buy less electricity, utilities are being forced to raise rates  on non-solar customers to pay for infrastructure. Southern California Edison  will reportedly transfer $400 million in annual costs to people without solar  systems.
  • Idaho Power argues that being forced to buy solar power at the more expensive  retail rate amounts to a subsidy which is paid by all other ratepayers. The  utility has plenty of support in the state legislature.
  • Critics point out even with the growth in recent years, solar power is still by  far the smallest contributor to the grid supplying just one-tenth of one percent  of the country’s electricity. Coal remains the biggest chunk at 36 percent,  followed closely by natural gas. As for renewable sources, wind is at the top at  3.2 percent.
  • “Everywhere you go, solar energy requires massive subsidies, which eventually  blow a hole in the federal or state budget, and then are dropped,” said Myers.  “Solar is a bad way to go.”

Oh well, of one thing I’m confident. No cost is too high for the People’s Republic of Boulder. One of these days the guilt ridden SUV drivers will wake up to common sense but not anytime soon.

News Boulderites should heed: The Disgusting Consequences of Plastic-Bag Bans

Jonathan Klick and Joshua Wright, who are law professors at the University of Pennsylvania and George Mason University, respectively, have done a more recent study on the public-health impact of plastic-bag bans. They find that emergency-room admissions related to E. coli infections increased in San Francisco after the ban. (Nearby counties did not show this increase.) And this effect showed up as soon as the ban was implemented. (“There is a clear discontinuity at the time of adoption.”) The San Francisco ban was also associated with increases in salmonella and other bacterial infections. Similar effects were found in other California towns that adopted such laws.

I’m surprised that the Daily Camera’s own Erika Stutzman hasn’t picked up on this hazard. She has expressed concern multiple times regarding the quality of our food supplies, so I’m expecting to see her alerting Boulder Citizen’s of the danger of reuseable bags.

Of course, there’s a simple fix, Boulder City Council can simply pass a law requiring all reuseable bags to be washed before re-use. Yea, that’ll work.
