Fast and Furious mea Culpa to DC Editorial Staff

The Daily Camera editorial of Sept 30th of this year starts out:

We respect the constitutional right to bear arms, and we appreciate the right of states to balance that right with the very real public safety threat guns present in America. That’s why we are against a bill that would allow the federal government to trump local laws regarding guns.

Colorado’s laws spell out certain regulations designed for that balance: For instance, gun owners have to meet certain requirements for a concealed weapons permit, and when they have their concealed weapon on them, they will also need both the physical permit and photo identification.

Color me skeptical regarding the first paragraph but I also have enough courage (or whatever it is, added 10/6 integrity is probably a better word here) to apologize for my statements implying that Erika would not object to Fast and Furious if the objective was to increase gun control in the United States. I apologize, that was an inappropriate statement.

All that said, the above editorial is about the Least Common Denominator for reciprocity in concealed carry permits. That argument also works when the Republican’s suggest allowing purchase of insurance across state lines. Colorado has mandated maternity coverage in individual plans (and perhaps in Group plans, I’m not sure). If you can purchase policies across state lines, everyone in the US who is planning to get pregnant will purchase health insurance from Colorado. Everyone in Colorado who doesn’t want to pay for maternity coverage will purchase plans from outside the state. This obviously isn’t a business model that will work.
