We’re talking men, college aged men: The War on Men on Campus: Kangaroo Courts and Angry Feminists Await
The discrimination will continue because there is no push back. If 5-10 percent of men fought back, stood up and started realizing that men’s rights are human rights and that they are not victims for daring to believe that their voices in gender and reproductive equality are just as important as a woman’s is, then maybe things will start to change. Until then, the kangaroo courts and angry feminists will have their day.

Reading the blog article reminded me of Michael Crichton’s movie, “Disclosure.” It’s about a man who’s accused of sexual harassment inside a corporation. The way it correlates is it puts a man in the victim role after he’s been accused of sexual harassment by a woman who is his boss, and shows how he fights back and regains his dignity. The accused man is helped by a female attorney. It was pretty avante garde for its time, because it totally turned what people thought were the gender roles at play and turned them on their head, to reveal what was really going on.
Having said that, and I don’t mean to diminish at all what’s being done with men on some college campuses, but I think there’s a different explanation that holds more weight as to why less men are going to college. More than 10 years ago 60 Minutes did a piece on “the war on men.” They didn’t agree with the idea, so it was devoted to debunking it, but they did talk to a guy who had looked at how men were being affected by family decisions. He blamed that, not institutional politics. He said what he saw was that families were putting more of their resources into supporting their daughters than their sons, because they saw society as favoring men, and they wanted to give their daughters an “equal shot” at “making it,” so they put more effort into supporting their educational goals than their sons. He said if families had to make a financial choice about which child to send to college, they were choosing to send their daughters rather than their sons, because they thought, “Our son will make out fine, because it’s a man’s world.” He thought families were wrong in that assessment. He anticipated that women would end up making more money than men, because they would be more skilled in the jobs of the future, and he worried that men would have a tough time making themselves “marriage material,” because of their parents’ decisions.
About as long ago, John Stossel was documenting how men were being targeted with sexual misconduct charges at Columbia. So this is not a new discussion. I suppose the general atmosphere could be dissuading young men from going to college, and influencing the decisions of parents. That’s possible. I tend towards thinking what that guy said on 60 Minutes is more the culprit.
People interested in this topic, and Dr. Helen Smith’s book, might be interested in what “girlwriteswhat” has to say. She has a YouTube channel called “girlwriteswhat,” and a blog called “Owning Your Shit.” Despite the offensive (or blunt) title, she is worth listening to WRT how feminism is being promulgated, and how it’s damaging men, and society. She goes into a lot of background, but I think it’s necessary for her to get her points across, because what she talks about is not generally discussed anywhere in our social institutions, or our media.
From what I can tell her videos are just her reading what she’s written on her blog. So you can get her material either way, as text, or as video.

The second one is kind of chilling, because she lays out a scenario that sounds plausible, which goes beyond the issue of why so many men are not choosing marriage, to what we see happening with wages, and what we see happening with the federal debt. She doesn’t offer much evidence for it, which doesn’t say much for the case she makes, but I think it’s something to pay attention to. I like what she lays out, because it marries the social problems we see with the economic and fiscal problems, all in one package. If evidence were to validate it, it would make sense of so much of what we’re seeing.
The 60 minutes theory certainly makes sense. It will be interesting to read Helen Smith’s book, when it comes out until June.
I’m not familiar at all with the Crighton movie Disclosure. Obviously I’m behind the learning curve on this topic in general, although it has certainly peaked my interest of late.
Just on face value alone, I like a blog that’s called “Owning your shit”! It implies “rights and personal responsibility” using just 3 words. Gotta like that. I’ll check it out, although it maybe awhile.
