More on Whole Foods boycott

Hey, who predicted the Boulder boycott of Whole foods (not that it took a genious or anything)!??

Now Whole Foods is apologizing for CEO John Mackay’s WSJ column regarding health reform.

Whole Foods, the largest natural foods grocer in Boulder County, is doing damage control and apologizing to its customers amid growing calls for boycotts against its CEO’s views on health care.

John Mackey, Whole Foods’ founder and chief executive officer, caused a stir after he wrote a guest opinion in the Wall Street Journal against a “massive new health-care entitlement” that will “move us much closer to a government takeover of our health-care system.”

John Mackey advocated personal responsibility, what’s wrong with that?

I do think his article gave short shrift (is that a word?) to the problem of the uninsured that have gotten trapped outside the system, to me that’s what health care reform should be about.

To many, their hate of the insurance companies profit motives is so great that they would rather go without health insurancce at great financial risk to themselves and their families simply to avoid paying premiums to the insurance companies. Pennywise and pound foolish it seems to me. That is where the non-profit medical co-op idea seems to make some sense, as it would take away the excuse from this group of people to not purchase health insurance.
