Top Dem Admits: ‘We Knew’ | National Review Online.
House Democratic Whip Steny Hoyer conceded to reporters today that Democrats knew people would not be able to keep their current health care plans under Obamacare and expressed qualified contrition for President Obama’s repeated vows to the contrary.
“We knew that there would be some policies that would not qualify and therefore people would be required to get more extensive coverage,” Hoyer said in response to a question from National Review.
Asked by another reporter how repeated statements by Obama to the contrary weren’t “misleading,” Hoyer said “I don’t think the message was wrong. I think the message was accurate. It was not precise enough…[it] should have been caveated with – ‘assuming you have a policy that in fact does do what the bill is designed to do.’”
Why didn’t the general publich know? Main Stream Media, LOOK IN THE MIRROR. YOU ARE WHY the general public was so poorly informed. Y O U. It was very widely known that only grandfathered plans issued prior to March 23rd, 2010 would be able to keep their plans. That fact alone should have lead some hard nosed MSM reporter to dig a little (or a lot) deeper. But you just soaked up the “You can keep your plan BS.”. Now you’re covered in it, and guess what, you deserve it. The problem is the uninformed masses are covered in it because you refused to do your job. They don’t deserve it.
Continuing…
Hoyer noted that people losing access to their current plans are mostly in the individual market, which is a small segment of the overall market. He also argued requiring those plans to follow new mandates and regulations was important for ensuring those plans included “adequate coverage so the public would not have to be on the hook for serious illnesses or other illnesses.”
What a bunch of hooey. Almost all major medical cover “serious illnesses” even the “bad plans”. This concept that all plans born prior to Obamacare are garbage is BS. Interestingly enough, the people requried to surrender their plans purchased them between March 23rd 2010 and today. The people who can keep their plans purchased them prior to March 23rd and made no modifications to them. Due to high turnover in the individual market, that number is very low (finding the best deal syndrome).
Fortunately, my plan is “grandfathered”. So being such an old plan, it must be “garbage”, at least that’s the implication every time you hear a Democrat speak on this issue. The checks this garbage plan issued to Children’s Hospital, totaling more than $200,000 and probably closer to $300,000 worked just fine.
I like my plan (yes I wish it was a lower deductible but I couldn’t afford that), I can keep my plan. I AM keeping my plan.
I must be some kind of neanderthal for wanting to keep an ancient plan that MUST be garbage simply from when it was issued. Oh and guess what, I WAS discriminated against with my plan and received rate ups for medical conditions (i.e. I didn’t get the “good driver” discount). EVEN WITH THAT, it is substantially cheaper than the least expensive Bronze plan available on the exchange which has a maximum out of pocket that is about $3000 higher than my current plan.
