Boulder Municipalization: Are Progressives dressed in sheep’s clothing?
Joel Kotkin: Progessives, preservation & prosperity
Many American progressives have shifted from their historic interest in economic growth and social mobility to a primary focus on environmental purity, whatever the social or economic cost.
If they are, I suggest that SUV driving “middle of the road” Boulderites need to get rid of the guilty conscience and make their voice heard in the municipalization debate. The only way, I repeat the ONLY way that a Boulder Municipal electric utility will be competitive with Xcel is if:
- There are State or Federal mandates that force Xcel to deliver very expensive power OR
- Fossil fuels rise to extravagant levels (no wonder the anti-fracking movement is so strong in Boulder)
Ok, that’s TWO ways and am too lazy to rewrite the above sentence. Frankly, I hope Boulder gets what they deserve.
