Boulder speeding tickets are up 50% this year. Is the Boulder Police Department really making the roads a safer place or simply protecting their jobs and adding money to the cities general fund? I split my vote as 10% making the roads safer and 90% to raising money.
In the next day or two I’ll describe the two speed traps I’ve encountered lately. One is a photo-radar setup and the other took advantage of drivers frustration with road construction. And to curious minds, no I didn’t get caught by either one.
Perhaps everyone should challenge their tickets simply to clog up the court system. Of course, in most cases you WERE speeding and you get a discount on “points” if you simply admit guilt and pay the ticket.
All in all, Boulder is becoming a more and more unfriendly (and stoopid!) place. Yesterday I needed to purchase as HTML book and I was patient and spent my money in Longmont simply to avoid funding the Boulder city government. A small act but a very conscious decision.
Starve the beast I say. In fact, it appears that the BPD speed traps are an initial reaction to a pending budget crunch. Expect it to get worse before it gets better.
