Fines for unsorted trash

It’s a short hop from San Francisco to Boulder, so I predict this proposal to inspect trash and associated fines will be floated by the City or County authorities in the near future.

Garbage collectors would inspect San Francisco residents’ trash to make sure pizza crusts aren’t mixed in with chip bags or wine bottles under a proposal by Mayor Gavin Newsom.

And if residents or businesses don’t separate the coffee grounds from the newspapers, they would face fines of up to $1,000 and eventually could have their garbage service stopped.

I’m sure Boulder County recycling czar (Division Manager with the Boulder County Resource Conservation Division) Jeff Callahan will be leading the way.

Me, I’m returning my recycling and composting carts in the next week or two. Alert liberal Boulderites, I’ve been recycling for 20 years and still do.
